Miranda Lewis is desperate to get away from her controlling ex–so desperate she leaves him in the middle of the night. She ends up on a remote island off the Maine coast, where she befriends a bubbly shopkeeper, Claire, and becomes fascinated with Claire’s son, big, brooding Owen Larsen, a woodworker who keeps to himself. Even the friendliest locals here are secretive–and Owen is at the center of their secrets.

Still, Miranda loves the salt air, the craggy coastline, and, most of all, the work of the island’s beloved local painter, Suzanna White. Miranda wants to stay–to claim a life of her own, to paint again. But the longer she stays, the more her fascination with Owen increases. Why is there a painting of his stern, handsome face in the art gallery by the beach? And why is everyone so afraid of him?

Set Me Free Playlist

Thanks so much for hosting my Set Me Free playlist! I obsessively listen to music when I write to help me get into the mood or mindset of the book. In fact, I usually play one artist or even just one album over and over (my poor husband). For this novel, Florence + the Machine was that artist—which makes sense, since they have so many dark, orchestral, moody songs about love and the sea. :) But Set Me Free is also a pretty diverse mix of moods and even genres, so I branched out a little, too. For example, Miranda, my heroine, is a big Tom Waits buff, and plays a little bit of his music for the hero, Owen. So of course I had to listen to Waits while I was writing those scenes. :) Then, after the book went up on Wattpad, two of my Wattpad followers suggested songs for the book (which was just the coolest experience ever btw). I thought both songs suited the book really well, and I listened to them a lot during my revisions.

So, without further adieu, here’s the playlist, in roughly the order that suits the book:

“Remain Nameless” – Florence + the Machine
“Only If For a Night” – Florence + the Machine
“Between Two Lungs” – Florence + the Machine
“My Boy Builds Coffins” – Florence + the Machine
“Sand in Your Shoes” – This Providence
“Martha” – Tom Waits
“I Hope That I Don’t Fall In Love With You” – Tom Waits
“Used to Love U” – John Legend
“Stereo” – John Legend
“Lonely” – Tom Waits
“Girl With One Eye” – Florence + the Machine
“Cherry Wine (Live)” – Hozier
“I Will Not Be Myself” – Deer Tick
“Heavy In Your Arms” – Florence + the Machine
“What the Water Gave Me” – Florence + the Machine
“Cosmic Love” – Florence + the Machine

Meet the author…

Hello! I’m London, a writer, lawyer, and life-long New Englander. I write all flavors of romance, from surreal fantasy romances to raw gritty contemporaries. I also write across the gender and sexuality spectrums. Everything I write is a little bit funny, a little bit sad, and probably kind of strange.
