Wow! I’m honestly speechless after reading this book. The theme to this book is rape. Right in the beginning our protagonist finds herself in a position where she is about to be raped by a guy she considers her friend. She’s luckily saved from a boy in one of her classes but that night still haunts her. She ends up finding a friend in her rescuer and with his help, she is able to overcome the circumstances in which they first met.

Jacqueline finds herself questioning that night and decides to keep the incident to herself, much to Lucas’ dismay. However, when the guy keeps cornering her and making remarks on how he will get her next time, she enrolls in self-defense classes. Which Lucas just so happens to help instruct. Lucas is a huge factor of Jacqueline getting over that night. Even though he houses secrets that he’s unwilling to tell her about, she still finds comfort in his companionship. However, her decision in not alerting the authorities of her attack come back to bite her in the ass when the guy ends up raping another girl.

I absolutely love this story. I was not even halfway through before I was declaring my love for it. Sometimes… you just know. I found the progression of the story to be flawless. I was a huge fan of the love interest in the quiet but protective Lucas. I think that the author got the mentality down for someone who was sexually assaulted. A lot of people may read this and think “GOD she is so stupid! Why didn’t she call the cops?!” but when your sexually assaulted the thoughts that are going around in your head are, “Maybe I did something that caused this”, “No one will believe me”, “I don’t want to ruin my relationship with those around me because of this”. When something like that happens to you, for some reason you automatically think you’re at fault and are hesitant to open up to others about it. I applaud the author for broaching such a touchy subject. I think she did an amazing job shedding some light on something that happens more commonly than you’d think. I also love the last page of the book that contains hotline numbers and websites to check out if you’ve been or think that you’ve been victimized.
