Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage.

When she stumbles into Ryan Campbell’s creative writing class, he is only “Mr. Campbell” to her, until Ryan finds himself captivated by her writing and she is forced to face their mutual attraction. His cocky know-it-all syndrome is enough to send her running in the other direction, and his posse of female admirers and playboy reputation are enough to squander any odds in her favor.

But underneath Ryan’s abrasive facade is something to behold, and she can’t stay away for long. Ryan and Kate must decide who they’re willing to become and fight against their former selves if they want to make things work. That’s if academia, vicious vixens, old skeletons, and their own mastery at self-destruction don’t pummel their efforts first.

Kate and Ryan are two people who are just not cut out for a serious relationship. Ryan missed the biggest career opportunity of his life when he forgot something at home, went back, and found his fiance knocking boots with another man. Ever since then he has never let himself get too close anyone or stay with the same chick for too long. If you don’t get too attached to them, then it won’t be so painful when they leave you, right?

Kate isn’t looking for a relationship at all. She’s not had the best experiences when it comes to dating. Not to mention the bad hand that she was dealt with her father leaving her and her mother when she was younger. She not only had to deal with an absent father but then her mother deteriorated leaving Kate to fend for herself. It’s safe to assume that Kate’s built a pretty strong wall around herself. She works really hard to stay afloat in life and takes great pride in handling things herself.

This was an enjoyable read. You have two people who have messed up pasts and psychological issues that they need to work out before they can fully commit to the relationship. There is no main villain or anything majorly crazy that goes on in the story. It’s just a nice story about two people overcoming their past to create a future together.

“The next morning, I pulled myself out of bed and wandered to my bathroom to find Dean taking pictures of Carter in the tub. He kept messing with his phone, laughing under his breath, grinning like a school boy. He’d positioned my loofah in Carter’s arms so it looked like he was cradling it and had propped a throw blanket over him.”

  2. The cover of this caught my as soon as I saw your review and it sounds like a fun read, too!

  3. This book sounds fun. It doesn’t sound all that original, but then again sometimes it’s nice to read a book that’s cute – even if you know how it’s going to go.

  4. Hmm, for some reason (the cover, I think), I thought this was about a teacher/student relationship. Doesn’t she look like a naughty teacher? Anyway, I now know I was WRONG. Doesn’t sound like my thing still, but glad you had a decent time reading it!
