The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe…until a threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Cara always knew life on planet L’eihr would be an adjustment. With Aelyx, her L’eihr boyfriend, back on Earth, working to mend the broken alliance between their two planets, Cara is left to fend for herself at a new school, surrounded by hostile alien clones. Even the weird dorm pet hates her.

Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L’eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L’eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L’eihr relations. Humans don’t know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx’s people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists’ multiple attempts on Aelyx’s life.

The Way clearly needs humans’ help . . . but with what? And what will they ask for in return?

1thoughts
“For the last several months, she’d carried a tremendous burden, slinging the fate of Earth across her back like Atlas – something no seventeen-year-old should have to do.”

Cara is now on planet L’eihr to show good faith and fulfill the galactic exchange program. Meanwhile, Aelyx is on Earth as a public figure for L’eihr, trying to get humans to accept L’eihrs. However, neither of them have it easy.

Cara went to L’eihr in the hopes of building bonds with the L’eihrs and paving the way for humans to co-exist on L’eihr. That’s easier said than done though. Cara is loathed by her L’eihr peers and soon finds herself being set-up at every turn. She also begins to have suspicions about one of the leaders of L’eihr, but due to their power, no one will listen.

Aelyx doesn’t have it much better on Earth. He’s touring the world trying to get the humans support for an alliance between their two planets but humans are still showing resistance… in the form of attempted assassinations on his life. However, if he doesn’t make this alliance work, Earth will perish without the assistance of L’eihr.

I must be honest, Cara and Aelyx did not take center stage for me on this one. Nope. Vero, Aelyx’s lemur-looking alien pet on L’eihr stole the show for me. He loathes Cara and is always peeing on her pillow and screeching at her. It’s this mutual hate between the two until something clicks with Vero (not gonna tell you what it is) and he starts to see Cara as Aelyx’s mate. Therefor causing him to accept her as part of his family. Every time Vero popped into the picture I found myself cheesing like the Cheshire Cat.

“The way he puffed his chest and jabbered with pride promised that birds and snakes were just the beginning of Cara’s bounty. She signed and grabbed a clean uniform. At least he’d stopped peeing on her pillow.”

This was a great sequel to Alienated. The story is told in both Cara and Aelyx’s POV just like the previous book. It was interesting to see them both struggle with not only being separated but dealing with alien situations. Not to mention how Cara reacts when she gets back to Earth. The author did a great job bringing new aspects into the story with the alien life-force that is said to have created the L’eihrs from humans. Is the story real or just a tale past down through the years? Will they come back? If so are they friend or foe? I liked that this wasn’t solely just a story about Cara and Aelyx being separated and acclimating to their new roles.

Some things are still left opened and I’m sure there is going to be another book coming out. However, unlike Alienated, this does not end on a cliffhanger. If it weren’t for those few loose strings of the unknown left I would say this is the end. For all I know it could be and the author is leaving it up to the reader to decide how everything plays out. Who knows. Either way I enjoyed the characters she created and I heavily enjoyed my time on L’eihr.

1favequote
“I know how humans love. Their passion burns like a lump of sugar – quick and hot. And when the fire dies, they seek a new flame. They chase sparks instead of collecting the warmth of old embers.”

7 Thoughts on “Review: Invaded by Melissa Landers

  1. I feel so stupid. I still need to read book 1. I have it I am just slacking! Happy the second book was good.

    • Oh my, Jennifer. Don’t feel stupid. I’m behind on a lot of my books. Sadly, if I don’t get a review copy of a book, there’s a good chance I won’t get around to reading it. This is a good series so far though. So if you get the chance to read it, and you’re in the mood for some sci-fi YA romance, than this is a good one to pick up.

  2. I don’t read alien books but these alien romances lately are getting more and more “human” like less sci-fi world building more relationships. Something duds like me can totally get into!

    • Yeah, this isn’t overly sci-fi in the sense of a ton of world building and characters that are extremely hard to picture. However, there’s a nice touch of sci-fi to pull it out of the contemporary genre. It’s a good balance.

  3. I am so super excited to read this book. I loved the first book. It was quite a surprise for me. I really didn’t expect to love it so much. It quickly entered my favorite zone. I have seen some reviews where they state there isn’t enough romance in this one. I am glad to see this did not hinder your enjoyment and I can’t wait to meet the pet.

  4. Great review, I’ve heard great things about this series, but haven’t had a chance to start it yet.
I put myself on a book buying ban 🙁 so maybe I can find it at the library

  5. Glad you liked this one! I loved Alienated and have been super excited about it!
I was a little wary it was going to be bad because they are separated, but it sounds like it is still interesting. Your review is making me really want to read it!
