Kacey experienced a horrific car accident that left her the sole survivor of the accident. She’s tried seeking professional help but so far nothing short of alcohol, drugs and sex has helped her cope. However, she gives that all up and runs away from her legal guardians (aunt and uncle) with her 15 yr old sister to start a new life. However, the walls that she’s built around herself start to crack when she starts opening up and becomes friends with her new neighbors.
At first, I was expecting this to be a mediocre read about getting over a rough experience, and technically it is, but it’s also so much more. Kacey and her sister, Livie, move into the new apartment and seem to instantly attract attention from the people living on both sides of their apartment. Storm is a young single mom who works late nights serving drinks at a strip club. After watching Kacie and Livie struggle for money, she hooks Kacie up with a job as a bartender. Trent is the stud who lives next door. He’s definitely interested in Kacey, even if she is a total nut case. He knows that she has P.T.S.D and tries to help her through her issues.

The story pretty much follows Kacie as she slowly starts to open up and heal. Yes, she makes some bad choices and does some stupid things but she has issues. I was reeled in from the first page but the second I figured out the turning point, about half way through the book, I was zoned into the story to see if my suspicions were correct. Even though I thought I knew what was going on, the author still managed to throw a creepy curve ball in there that had my eyes bulging out, thinking back to the beginning of the book and what all happened. I wish the ending ended a little differently, but then maybe I’m just cynical. Regardless, I loved the story, outcome and all. I could totally see this books becoming a movie.
I’m horrible when it comes to things jumping in front of the car when driving. I really should have a bumper sticker that says “I brake for lizards.”
