A Rough Start to the New Year

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Thank goodness January is over! I was starting to worry that the government wasn’t ever going to open back up. I don’t think people realized just how many lives were impacted by the shutdown. It wasn’t just your typical government jobs in D.C. (which seemed to be what most people thought of when they thought of a government shutdown), but people all over the world were affected by it. Not only that, but some of the visitors that came to our national park did not treat it with any respect. It was absolute chaos up there and given the shutdown, I, and my fellow coworkers, were unable to do anything but sit at home and stew over everything happening to our beloved park. It was a rough month for sure. I’m just glad to finally be back at work. I don’t even want to think about what might happen in a couple of weeks.

6 Thoughts on “A Rough Start to the New Year

  1. I didn’t realize you were affected by the shutdown, and I’m so sorry! I did know that the shutdown affected not just DC federal employees, but federal employees, contractors, and businesses all over the country and beyond our borders. Hopefully, federal employees will get back pay, but the contractors probably won’t, and the businesses whose revenue was impacted won’t either. And some of the damage to national parks, like Joshua Tree, is irreparable. It makes me sad and angry. I pray that Congress and the President can come to an agreement before the next deadline, so all of you can at least begin getting back to normal.

  2. I’m glad to see you’ve got a few weeks back at work at least, though how awful that those ignorant visitors messed up parts of the Park in the meantime. I can’t understand such behaviour. And I don’t really understand the whole shut-down idea either to be honest. From over here, it looks like a very strange thing for a man to inflict on a country he professes to care about

  3. Yes I am really blessed that my life wasn’t effected by the shutdown but I know many that were effected and I still can’t believe that it happened and that so many people were without jobs or pay for so long. I am sorry to hear about the horrible effects to the park though. I love National Parks and am shocked that people would trash it. Hope February is a better month for you though. January was a great reading month for me though and I lost over 10 lbs in the past two weeks, so its been good for me.

  4. I am horrified by all the lies and political games which are happening and the damage it is causing.

White Trash Zombies is one I plan to read. I own the first one and my friends have liked it. I hope this month goes better than January. Happy Reading!

  5. What park do you work at? I saw some of the damage pics on hte news and people are such asses sometimes. I really hope that you don’t have to go through this a second time.

Did you like Rough Terrain? I bought it but I haven’t gotten to it yet.

I’m glad you’re back at work, but I know that things might shut down again soon and I really hope not. It’s true that many people probably don’t realize how much the government shutdown affects people. It’s definitely NOT just those big DC jobs. The government is all over.
