When the one thing you live for is taken from you, do you let it go or do you fall?
Jade, like any other student at Brushwood High, awaits the start of the school year with a certain measure of dread. Worse, she is being threatened by a voice that only she can hear—a voice that lurks at the edges of her awareness, haunting her and warning her of something unknown. She has always been able to count on her two best friends, Claire and Nate, but can she confide in them now? About this? Would they even believe her?
Life takes a turn for the better when she meets Avan, a darkly handsome new student who, somehow, seems to drown out the voice and make her feel at ease.
But Jade soon comes to realize that good things don’t last forever. When everything spirals out of control, she is shattered by something she never saw coming. Dazed and despairing, she must now overcome tragedy and embrace her true existence and a new but dangerous love. Will she be able to save herself and those she loves, before it’s too late? Or will she let the surrounding darkness consume her?

1thoughts

Jade is a wholesome girl who hears a voice in her head warning her of impending danger. She thinks she might be crazy and tries to continue about her life and enjoy the company of her two best friends. Shortly after the school year starts, she meets Avan, He’s gorgeous and the chemistry between the two of them is undeniable. Jade was slightly off put by Avan because her rival classmate/ arch-nemesis, Amy, is obviously interested in him. However, Avan and Jade start dating and everything is going great… until tragedy strikes. Jade must pick herself up and prepare to find out the truth of what she really is. But once she does, her life is going to be anything but normal.

We honestly didn’t know what to expect from this book because the synopsis was so vague. We knew it would be some form of paranormal since she hears voices in her head but no idea what exactly that meant. Vampires? Angels? Ghosts? Reincarnation? Fae? Truth be told we were pleasantly surprised. We became enveloped in Jade’s story. We kept wondering where Lucy was going with this, and had a couple of theories of our own but, we weren’t always right.

Throughout the book, there were a few times where the story would jump ahead and we would need to catch our bearings. We weren’t lost in the story, but you know how sometimes you read a book that will fill those uneventful moments with ramblings that aren’t that relevant to the story. Well, we have to say that we were pleased that that wasn’t the case with Feathermore.

We both had different takes on Avan
Monique: During Jade’s attempt to pull herself together, she distances herself from Avan at times. Then one day she sees him shooting pool with some kids from school and lone and behold, Amy is among the crowd, flirting with Avan. I was beginning to like Avan and that did not sit too well with me. I understand that Jade needed some time and space to cope, and I didn’t expect him to sulk at home all alone, but knowing how Jade felt about Amy he should have thought twice about even entertaining her, let alone hanging out with her. As the events in Feathermore played out, I began tapping my screen (turning the page) faster and faster. During the final moments, I was so engrossed, that when it ended I said aloud, “Well, I didn’t see that one coming.” lol. I wish I didn’t have to wait for the second one and will definitely read it.

Kristin: I didn’t really like Jade’s boyfriend at all. He comes in as the new kid in school and seems to take an interest in Jade but then she runs into him at a local diner hanging out with her arch nemesis, Amy. Then they start dating, everything is going great and then when tragedy strikes poor Jade, she finds the douche, err, I mean, Avan out with Amy and her friends, AGAIN! Instead of consoling Jade and trying to be there for her, he’s out there goofing around with the one person who has shown how much of a bully she is to Jade. For me, that was the last straw, I wrote him off in my mind. What kind of boyfriend does that and then ends up being forgiven? Oh no sister, that doesn’t fly with me. However, I must say that I loved the ending and totally didn’t see any of it coming.

There is a part where Jade wakes up in the all too mysterious Blake’s home. She is needing answers at this time. She decides to sit in a leather chair and the seat makes a farting noise. She is immediately embarrassed and mumbles, “It…it was the chair.”
