Thank you so much for having me on Book Sniffers Anonymous!

Authors don’t decide to write a book, pen it, edit it, and sell it in a vacuum. An endless stream of books and publishing personalities are there every step of the way. Here are five authors that had a huge impact on me as a reader and as a writer.

  1.  T. A. Barron wrote a book called Heartlight. This is the first book I ever read that made me think about the author as creator. It was the first time I realized a person was behind the words I loved to get lost in, which is the first step to becoming that person for someone else.
  2.  Say what you will about James Patterson, but that man does high-action and tension like nobody else. When I got back into reading after college, his were some of the first books I devoured. His Maximum Ride books were a big influence on DAPT.
  3. Tamora Pierce made me cry. Let’s be clear, I’m not a crier. I’ve met many famous people without so much as a flutter, but when I met Tamora Pierce at the RT Convention in 2014, all my legendary calm abandoned me. I just love what she does with female characters, and how all of them are so very different, but still awesome in their own ways.
  4. Lois Lowry. There is no way around it: The Giver changed me. Thanks to my military family’s nomadic ways, I read it in three different classes before I graduated Junior High and it just got better every time. And let’s not discuss the gallons of tears I shed reading Number the Stars.
  5. Libba Bray has got to be one of the most dynamic, fearless, loving people I have ever met. Her books are amazing, her audiobook narration of Beauty Queens was incredible and if you’ve met her, you know: she’s a force of nature. I adore her.

I could go on, but neither you nor I have that much time.  If you haven’t checked out these authors yet, they come with my highest recommendation!

Publisher: Entangled

Genre: YA Fantasy

Goodreads

Never judge a dragon
by her human cover…

Sixteen-year-old Kitty Lung has everyone convinced she’s a normal teen—not a secret government operative, not the one charged with protecting the president’s son, and certainly not a were-dragon. The only one she trusts with the truth is her best friend—and secret crush—the über-hot Bulisani Mathe.

Then a junior operative breaks Rule Number One by changing into his dragon form in public—on Kitty’s watch—and suddenly, the world knows. About dragons. About the Draconic Intelligence Command (DIC) Kitty works for. About Kitty herself.

Now the government is hunting down and incarcerating dragons to stop a public panic, and a new shape-shifting enemy has kidnapped the president’s son. Kitty and Bulisani are the last free dragons, wanted by both their allies and their enemies. If they can’t rescue the president’s son and liberate their fellow dragons before getting caught themselves, dragons might never live free again.

4 Thoughts on “Guest Post with Sarah Nicolas, author of Dragons are People, Too.

  1. I am not a big fan of the cover art, I love the rest though. I read James P.’s wizard thingy, hated it. I will read Lbray though

    • I like the purple strip in the hair. 😉 Go figure. I haven’t read any of James’ stuff. I wanted to read the Wizard one but the synopsis sounded boring so I didn’t pick it up. I’ve read Bray’s A GReat and Terrible Beauty though and enjoyed it. Haven’t read any of her other stuff though.

    • I also hated the first Witch & Wizard book! I didn’t read the rest.

  2. Thank you so much for hosting me!!
