Love-a-Thon: A Little Bit About Me

This weekend I’m taking part in the Love-a-Thon hosted by Alexa Loves Books, The Novel Hermit, Super Space Chick,  and The Daily Prophecy. The Love-a-Thon is an event dedicated to spreading positivity and love. It’s time dedicated to visiting other bloggers/Instagrammers/BookTubers, leaving a comment or two, making new friends and fostering positivity among the members of our amazing community.

Now that we got what Love-a-thon is out of the way, I’d like to take a moment to tell you a bit about myself. Many of you know my story but for those of you who don’t know who I am, my name’s Kristin and I’m currently in the SoCal area. I love reading anything with romance in it. So, with that being said I read young adult, new adult, contemporary, historical, paranormal, fantasy, and urban fantasy novels.

When I was a kid my mom would bring me to the library every week to get new books to read. However, once I started school and had literary classics jammed down my throat year after year, reading sort of lost it’s appeal for me. I actually didn’t get back into reading until about seven years ago when I finally gave in and gave Twilight a shot. I had a bunch of friends who wouldn’t stop telling me to read it. So, I got a copy of the book from my local library and quickly read the saga within a handful of days, and I haven’t looked back since. I didn’t actually get into book blogging until a year later. I stumbled across a book blog one day and realized that there were a lot of books out there that I had no idea existed. Since I already had a food blog [Holy Cannoli Recipes] I decided to create a book blog so that I could share new books and authors with my family and friends back home. Book Sniffers Anonymous is actually a mash-up of two names (book sniffers/bibliophiliacs anonymous) for a book club that a friend and I had been contemplating starting before I moved away. However, the book club idea fell through and each of those names were already taken on Blogger, so I mushed them together and got Book Sniffers Anonymous. I’m not too upset about the outcome because I couldn’t imagine my blog being named anything else.

While the blog is my main focus, I do like to chat with other readers on Twitter and Facebook. I just recently opened an Instagram account and have been having fun both checking out all the amazing bookish photos as well as sharing some of my own.

Let’s talk favorites…

Favorite food?
Brownies. I LOVE brownies. It’s like a magic trick with me. Put a pan of brownies in front of me and watch them disappear right before your very own eyes.

Beverage?
Hmm… I never knew what I was missing until we moved to the new place and an 85°c Bakery opened up down the street. I’ve been trying to be good about going there but their sea salt caramel coffee is where it’s at. I’m not normally a coffee addict but I’d drink that stuff every day if I could.

Favorite color?
Lime green. I’ve always been an “outside of the box” kinda girl. When I was little my favorite color was turquoise and my bedroom walls were painted in the color. Since then my tastes have changed but they definitely didn’t go with a general color. Luckily for me though, there was a year when car manufacturers were coming out with vehicles in lime green, and at the time the Mister and I were in the market for a new car. Yup, you may have figured out where I am going with this. LoL I now get to cruise around in a lime green car. Her name’s Lydia but everyone just calls her “The Party Car.” And by everyone I really mean just me.

Favorite things to do apart from reading?
I just recently started to learn how to knit. So far I’ve made a lopsided flower dishcloth, a coaster/dishcloth that was intended to be a hand towel (so it was sort of too big for a coaster but way too small for a towel), and a beanie… that actually turned out to be a beanie! LoL Needless to say I’ve got a long way to go but I’m optimistic that I’ll get there… someday. For now I hope my family and friends love their crazy, whacky, “what is this supposed to be”, knitted gifts I send them.

Favorite tv shows?
iZombie, The Walking Dead, Gilmore Girls, New Girl, Game of Thrones, and Madam Secretary are just some that come to mind. We also watch Good Mythical Morning every day on Youtube.

Favorite movies?
The Proposal, The 5th Element, and Harry Potter are my top three

Favorite childhood books?
Where the Sidewalk Ends, Little Golden Books, and Where’s Waldo.

Favorite books read in the last five years?
Wow, that’s a tall order. I will just list the first 10 books/series that show up in order on my favorites list that won’t already be included in my underrated books/authors list below.

Out of the Ashes by Lori Dillon, Monster in my Closet by RL Naquin, Fall Into You by Roni Loren, The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay, Bridge of Scarlet Leaves by Kristina McMorris, Blood Debt by Nancy Straight, Whatever Life Throws at You  by Julie Cross, Split by Swati Avasthi, Everything I Left Unsaid by Molly O’Keefe, and Tragic by JA Huss

Underrated book, series or author you love?
So I’m going to list some authors that you may or may not know about. These are books/authors I’ve recommended or brought up to people who enjoy that specific genre and yet had not heard about these authors. All but Easy are of fantasy/pnr genre.

Kait Ballenger, Darynda Jones, DT Dyllin, Tammara Webber, Katie Reus, Jax Garren, Gina Damico, and JT Geissinger

A book you want to see made into a film or tv show?
I would like them to try to remake Vampire Academy and The DUFF again. They did such a horrible job on both of them that I would like a director to have actually read the books and tried to adapt it to the big screen instead of just writing their own storyline. I mean, if you read the books and watched the movies you know what I’m talking about.

Books you want to read in 2017?
Until it Fades by KA Tucker, Red Wolf by Jennifer Ashley, Brave New Girl by Rachel Vincent, 100 Hours by Rachel Vincent, Dating You, Hating You by Christina Lauren, and ROAR by Cora Carmack

What are some of the books that you’re looking forward to this year?

15 Thoughts on “Love-a-Thon: A Little Bit About Me

  1. I also do love me some brownies! Especially in combination with some ice cream.
Lime green is definitely not a color I often see when people talk about their favorite color. I am a fan of mint green, lilac/lavender and gray.
I love Game of Thrones and New Girl – and I can’t wait to try iZombie.

  2. Twilight got so many people into reading! It made me read YA–even though I was a YA then. I’ll always be thankful for that.

I loved The Sea of Tranquility! It was such a beautiful story.

  3. I’m glad you’re joining us for the Love-a-Thon! I also loved hearing about the origin of your blog name. I always find that fascinating, especially because people are so creative! (I, alas, was not.)

  4. First of all, your blog has the best name ever!! I loved reading about how you came up with the name 🙂 I love Gilmore Girls too and I was so obsessed with The Proposal that my mom gifted me the DVD few years ago. <3

  5. iZombie is soooo good! I really need to catch up because I’ve only seen the first season but I absolutely loved the comics as well! And I love your photo! It has such a Ramona Flowers vibe!

  6. I didn’t realize you had a food blog too, I had a look ad it looks like you’re still posting there as well. Nice! It was fun to hear how you came up with the idea for your blog name.

I also like brownies, they are so good! I mostly drink tea and water during the day. Lime green is a pretty color. My favorite color is green. I would like to learn how to knit one day as it seems like a fun thing to be able to do.

3 of the books on your 2017 list are on mine too. I just got Until it Fades from netgalley, looking forward to read that one! And I am curious about Roar and Brave New Girl as well. Picking favorite books is always so though! I have read some of the ones you listed here, like Tragic, Blood Debt and The Sea of Tranquility.

  7. I used to LOVE lime green. Growing up my bedroom had a bright turquoise/lime green/purple color scheme. I lean more toward mixing blue with neutrals now, but I can never turn down a home accessory in a nice bright turquoise color!

  8. Brownies? Yes. Gilmore Girls? YES. I’m most looking forward to Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han, it’s the closing book to my favorite books and I’ll be sad but super happy.

  9. Hello, fellow Californian!! 85 Degrees is the absolute bestest (not a word but very appropriate)! I wish there was one near me, but I’ll just make do with the one close to work!

Love your blog name! I initially thought that you picked it because you love to sniff at books. I actually do! haha 🙂

  10. Mmmmm… brownies. I agree with you on that one. Paired with a cup of steaming hot Earl Grey tea and a good book = perfection! Funny how you’ve listed Easy as an underrated book. When I picked that up a few years ago, I felt like everyone was talking about it! I really liked it too. Also, I keep seeing The Sea of Tranquility on people’s favourites list, and I must pick that one up soon.

  11. Mmm I love brownies too! Made with walnuts and topped with vegan ice cream is my favourite way to eat brownies! Nice to meet you! Looking forward to seeing your future posts 🙂

  12. Love Brownies too. I envy you that your mom let your bedroom walls be your favorite color at the time Turqois. My favorite color as a kid was pink and my mom would not let me have pink walls. Nope I had to have white walls. I did have pink/fuscia carpet.

  13. Love your blog name! Brownies yum!! and how did I leave harry potter out of my favorite movies list! See The Deathly Hallows part 2 is my best movie experience ever and one of my top 3 movies…..

  14. Yeah, some love for CROAK! I practically have to sit on students to get them to try it. I don’t think it will ever be a huge hit in the library, but it’s definitely becoming a cult hit. The kids I get to try it become fans and recommend it to others.

  15. brownies really are the best. I love the same shows too! Tragic and The Sea of Tranquility were amazing!
