Whenever another kid goes missing in October, the kids in the old factory town of Pender know what is really behind it: a monster out in the marshes that they call the Mumbler.
That’s what Clara’s new crew tells her when she moves to town. Bree and Sage, who take her under their wing. Spirited Trace, who has taken the lead on this year’s Halloween prank war. And magnetic Kincaid, whose devil-may-care attitude and air of mystery are impossible for Clara to resist.
Clara doesn’t actually believe in the Mumbler–not like Kinkaid does. But as Halloween gets closer and tensions build in the town, it’s hard to shake the feeling that there really is something dark and dangerous in Pender. Lurking in the shadows. Waiting to bring the stories to life.

I did take a road trip with a friend earlier in the month to check out a farm sanctuary. I was really excited to get to walk on a farm and see all the animals, but I definitely wasn’t expecting the PETA vibe. I should have known, but I was so focused on getting to see farm animals that were rescued and got to live out their lives in a happy place, that I didn’t even stop to think that most of the animals weren’t coming from neglect or turn-ins so much as meat farms. Whoops. :face palm: It was still cool to get to see and pet the goats, pigs, and cow, but I definitely felt like the odd man out. Especially since I wasn’t vegan like everyone else, and I was wearing a leather wrist band. I still support what they are doing, and it was heartbreaking to hear all the things that each particular animal faced before they reached the sanctuary. I’d love to one day own a farm where chickens and other various farm animals can just chill and have a good living space.
