My thoughts…
I read the 6th book, The Immortal Highlander, a some years back and really liked it. So, I finally decided to go back to the beginning of the series and read my way through the books. I have to say, if I had read this book first, I probably wouldn’t be continuing. While the premise is intriguing, a women from 1997 getting sent back in time to 1513, I found Hawk and Adrienne to be tiresome characters.
You see, Adrienne has sworn off men and Hawk is known for making the rounds. However, when these two meet, it’s lust at first sight. Which Hawk tries to woo his lady, Adrienne swears up and down that she’d rather bed the blacksmith, Adam. This pretty much goes on and on for little over half the book. I kind of lost respect for Hawk because as time wore on not only would he continuously chase after Adrienne but he became more and more aggressive in his manner.
What I did like about this story was the fae element and the time traveling. I feel like those two aspects really kept me reading the book. Oh, and her cat. I had to know what happened to her cat that she left behind in 1997. Is it enough to fully enjoy the story, not quite but it did keep me interested until the end.
If I had started this series in order I probably wouldn’t continue. While I enjoy the author’s Fever series, this one did not start off so well for me. However, because I’ve read, and enjoyed, the 6th book, I know not all the books in the series are like this. So, I plan to continue on with the series.

I’ve read a few series that were like that. Didn’t enjoy the beginning but got into it later. I often wonder why that is.
I read this so long ago I barely remember it but I DID read the entire series, so… 😉 I think I felt this one was a bit “fluffy” or something whereas the rest of the series gets deeper with more going on in the overall story arc. Anyway, I hope, if you continue, the rest of the books engage you more. 🙂
I read this about a million years ago, but never read beyond book one. Whatever did happen to that cat? I snorted when I read the bit “Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir”. I know it’s trying to make him sound experienced and closed off to love, but it really makes him sound silly and skeezy.
Yeah. They are a bit on the cheesy and predictable side. As for the cat, she kept flashing back and forth between times do to the Fae fighting over her. I believe one of those times she was close enough to the cat that she snatched it and brought it back in time with her.
