I’m just gonna dive right into this review because I need to get my thoughts out there for you guys. We met Ladon in the first book when his friend brings him a phoenix to mate. Phoenixes basically are the symbol of great power and pretty much declare you ruler of all. However, when he noticed how attached the phoenix was to his friend and visa verse, he backed off and stood down as the future high king. However, when Skylar comes bombarding into his home, teleporting people all over the place with her powers in an attempt to save her sister from these cruel dragons that clearly have her captive (not!), he is immediately smitten. Most people fear him and take him seriously, and yet here’s this little thing using her power to teleport him to the next room without so much as a hello. Needless to say, he sets his sights on her and decides to make her mine. The only problem is, Skylar is a fighter and she isn’t going to go down without one heck of a fight.

I have to admit, I didn’t really like how it seemed like any phoenix would do for Ladon. I know that he is immediately taken with her, but his remarks of finding one of her other sisters to mate if she didn’t agree to mate with him just sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I know it was in order to get under skin, but guess what… it got under mine, too. Since Skylar is sort of the protector among her sisters, she’s not an easy one to win over. She is always looking at things from every angle and always coming up with a way to escape and keep her sisters safe. So when Ladon starts to prove that he’s a guy she can trust and isn’t just out for a phoenix to gain him power, she starts to lighten up around him. However, she’s still always aware of her sisters and always ready to fight to the death for them.

These two characters are strong players. Like I said before, Skylar is the protector among her sisters, Ladon is king of his people in order to keep them all safe. Both will do whatever it takes to keep those they love safe. So needless to say, they were perfect for each other. They are both stubborn and will do whatever it takes to keep people safe. Even if that means teleporting into the sky to fall into enemy dragons and teleport them out of the fight as you plummet towards earth, only to teleport back up into the sky and do it all over again. To say that Skylar was insane when it came to fighting would be an understatement. That girl doesn’t seem to have any fear.

A lot of new developments happen in this book. We meet the other two sisters. One was living with wolf shifters and other with gargoyles. One sister seemed to have some pretty cool powers while the other one doesn’t exhibit any at all. Not to mention the ending to this novel that has to do with one of the sisters being mated to a dragon… the WRONG dragon. Gah! That ending slayed me. I can’t believe I have to wait months for Meirda’s story. I mean, the girl was living with gargoyles. That right there is interesting enough, but yeah. I’m just going to stop there because I don’t want to give anything away, but I will be impatiently waiting for the next book to come out.

So yeah, to wrap up this jumbled mess of thoughts, if you are in the mood for a shifter romance, especially one with dragons, pick up this series. I mean, where else are you going to get dragons, phoenixes, werewolves, hell hounds, gargoyles, and who knows what else.
