The only excitement Shannon Parker expects while on summer vacation is a little shopping. But when an antique vase calls to her, she finds herself transported to Partholon, where she’s treated like a goddess. A very temperamental goddess…Somehow Shannon has stepped into another’s role as the Goddess Incarnate of Epona. And while there’s an upside—what woman doesn’t like lots of pampering?—it also comes with a ritual marriage to a centaur and threats against her new people. Oh, and everyone disliking her because they think she’s her double.

Somehow Shannon needs to figure out how to get back to Oklahoma without being killed, married to a horse or losing her mind

I will admit that it started a little slow for me but once Shannon was sucked into another world the story quickly picked up pace. She was thrown into Parthalon where she switches places with their Goddess incarnate, Rhiannon, who was a total bitch and a complete slut. Poor Shannon has a lot of making up to do in the beginning on the book, starting with her new husband.

At first, I was really worried about the whole centaur/human relations with the two of them being married but you find out that ClanFintan is a high shaman who can shape shift into a human. But really, if you think about it, there are a lot of shape shifting books out there like werewolves, dragons and even the whole vampire craze. So when you think of it like that, the whole centaur shape shifter isn’t so weird.

ClanFintan starts off being rude towards Shannon which is understandable with the way that Rhiannon had previously treated him. However, very soon after the switch, ClanFintan starts to notice a pleasant difference in the Rhiannon he once knew and starts warming up to her.

I really enjoyed this book. It has everything one could want from a romance novel, romance, humor and action. It wasn’t just a fluffy love story, which kept the story interesting.

My favorite part comes right after Shannon’s handfest to ClanFintan.
“Without moving his gaze from mine, he lifted my palm to his mouth. Gently, taking the meaty, muscular area below my thumb between his teeth he bit down. The bite was quick, and, quite frankly, more surprising than unpleasant. My eyes must have been huge as I pulled my hand out of his intimate grasp. I’ve married a friggin horse. And he bites.”

2 Thoughts on “Review: Divine By Mistake by P.C. Cast

  1. I haven’t read anything from this author. I’ll keep my eye open for this one. Great post!

  2. I kind of shy away from anything by P. C. Cast. I was very turned off by other books of hers and I just associate her name with that. However, the review makes me want to give her another chance, to sit down and read this book. Thanks 🙂
