In spite of themselves, Ana and Famine are drawn to each other. But at the end of the day, the two are enemies. Nothing changes that. Not one kind act, not two. And definitely not a few steamy nights. But enemies or reluctant lovers, if they don’t stop themselves soon, heaven will.
This is probably one of my favorite series. I love that it’s a dark romance that deals with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. However, it’s not one of those types of romances where you fall in love with the characters. This series is just so dark and twisted.
In this installment we meet Famine who relishes in killing people via deadly thorned plants that choke and bleed out the victims slowly, and Ana who is a prostitute who’s offered to him at one of the towns. Don’t be fooled, though. He has his men gut her and toss her in a pit to die. Only, she survives and seeks vengeance instead. When she finally catches back up to him, he remembers that he once met her, when he first arrived on earth. She saved him and hid him away from his captors, and in payment for her help, he decides to keep her as his captive instead of outright killing her.
Like I said, this is so dark and twisted and I loved it. I’m not sure how the author is able to do it, but even though Famine is killing people left and right, I still didn’t find myself hating him. I guess, at the end of the day, he’s just doing what he was created to do. Doesn’t mean that I liked the guy or anything, but I guess I just understood why he did the things he did. Even if they were a bit messed up. I don’t want to go into too much detail and give anything from the story away, but if you’re in the market for a very dark romance, then give this a try. The romance doesn’t actually kick in until the end, but it’s so worth the wait.

I like a dark romance at times.
Yeah I adore this series as well, and yeah its one of those where you just don’t like the characters for a long while, but then by the end you just cheer for them and their growth aned seeing them change. Its definitely well layered.
