No one can save her.

In order to protect Prince Lucien d’Malvane’s heart, Zera had to betray him. Now, he hates the sight of her. Trapped in Cavanos as a prisoner of the king, she awaits the inevitable moment her witch severs their magical connection and finally ends her life.

But fate isn’t ready to give her up just yet.

With freedom coming from the most unlikely of sources, Zera is given a second chance at life as a Heartless. But it comes with a terrible price. As the king mobilizes his army to march against the witches, Zera must tame an elusive and deadly valkerax trapped in the tunnels underneath the city if she wants to regain her humanity.

Winning over a bloodthirsty valkerax? Hard. Winning back her friends before war breaks out? A little harder.

But a Heartless winning back Prince Lucien’s heart?

The hardest thing she’s ever done.

Find Me Their Bones picks up right where Bring Me Their Hearts left off. I won’t go into the transition too much because I don’t want to give anything away. In this installment, Zera feels like a huge outcast and doesn’t trust anyone. Given that she’s been masquerading as a Spring Bride for Price Lucien, only for it to be revealed that she’s heartless, it’s safe to say that all of her friends are keeping her at arms length. However, that seems to be a good thing since Zera has been tasked with setting free a valkerax, the very beings that devastated the world years ago.

I have been impatiently waiting for this book to come out since I read the last book. The last one ended with a bit of a shocking reveal, and I just had to know what was going on. I’m glad to say that this one didn’t disappoint. It wasn’t just Zera being pushed away by those she cares about, or her mixed feelings for Lucien. There’s the valkerax that she’s tasked with earning the trust of. The ticking clock of trying to stop the human/witch war. Not to mention, the other various pieces that start palling into place as the story progresses.

With that all said, I did find this story to drag a slight bit at times. I mean, the valkerax scenes were great. However, I felt like Zera’s mistrust and her trying to push away everyone became a bit tiresome. I mean, at first I would get it, but then she was so stubborn to the fact that people had to have an ulterior motive in order to be near her, that she became a bit dense. She couldn’t seem to see things at face value for what they were. Now, I know a lot of it was her heartless hunger talking, but still, she was so quick witted and smart in the previous book, it was kind of sad to see her be so distrustful of everyone when it was clear that they were there for her, or at the very least, trying to get over their fear of the fact that she was heartless.

Find Me Their Bones was a good continuation of Zera’s story. The author added new elements to the story in order to keep it fresh. While it did seem to slow down at times with the whole distrust among friends, I still found myself glued to the book to see what would happen next. I’m invested in all of these characters now, and I just have to know what is in store for them next. One thing I can say with absolute certainty, I did not see that last chapter coming. Holy moly did the author throw one heck of a curve ball. I mean, I had my suspicions on what was happening, but my radar was a bit off. All I can say is that I will be impatiently waiting for the next book to come out.
