My thoughts…

Finding Kyle is not exactly what I expected it to be. The synopsis leads you to believe that Kyle is a criminal, and while he may have done some heinous things, there was a reason behind it. He struggles with the things he’s done and doesn’t feel like he’s redeemable and worthy of Jane. It also doesn’t help that he knows his time at Misty Harbor has a time limit to it. However, no matter how hard he tries to push Jane away and keep distance between them, his quirky neighbor keeps coming back and is slowly worming her way into his life.

If you can’t tell, I am a fan of Kyle’s character. While on the surface he was the epitome of a bad-boy, the truth was that he really wasn’t. Yeah, he did some really horrible things but he suffers from the choices he made and he made those choices for the greater good. There is no way he would have been able to not only infiltrate but earn the trust of the men in Mayhem’s Mission Motorcycle Club without proving himself and keeping his cover. These were bad men that needed to be taken down and Kyle did everything he could to earn their trust, learn their secrets, and collect enough evidence to take them down. However, it’s hard for him to come to terms with leading a normal life, let alone a life with Jane, when his hands are stained with so much blood. The internal battle he has, even though it’s not always so black and white in this novel, was what really drew me in to Kyle’s character.

“As I reflect back on the last five years I gave up so I could bring a pack of criminals to justice, I feel strangely unaccomplished.”

Finding Kyle is filled with a bunch of adorable scenes. Like the first time Jane brings him muffins. They’re awful and Kyle immediately throws them away. So the next time she brings him a homemade basket of goods he is cautious and asks her if there’s any baked goods in there before he accepts it. There’s also a scene where they just spend the day together painting a fence where Jane quizzes him on movie quotes. Basically, these two together were adorable together. Kyle was surly and stand-offish and really trying to get Jane to leave him alone, and Jane was just so perky and persistent in getting to know Kyle. It was just too cute watching them interact.

I really enjoyed my time with Finding Kyle. It was a quick romantic read that was wonderfully written. I’ve read and really enjoyed the author’s Sugar Bowl series and after reading this, I’m learning that this is an author that I need to keep up on.
