And when the dangers of Noah’s job become all too real, Jordan learns being with a fighter pilot means risking it all for a shot at love…

My thoughts…

Fly With Me was a great military romance. I’ve never read one that revolved around the air force pilots, and I have to say, I liked it… a lot. Not only did I like the whole military aspect of it, but the author did a great job putting you in Noah’s shoes. Not to mention the fact that Jordan is not familiar at all with the military lifestyle. It was interesting seeing these two adapt to their new situation. I mean, Jordan doesn’t know anything about what it’s like to be a military girl friend or spouse, and Noah’s not sure how to handle doing his job, being who he was before he had a girl friend, and maintaining a relationship all at the same time. I mean, as it stands, pretty much the whole book was of Jordan flying out to visit him. So, it was interesting seeing the strain that it put on their relationship. There was no crazy drama. Just your average military training/deployments throwing kinks in their plans.

I really liked Jordan’s character. She had a great sense of humor and I was smirking at the book more times than I could count. Plus, I liked that when life threw her a curve-ball, she didn’t give up, she looked at the issue from all angles and came up with a solution. I really admired that she wasn’t the typical fight or flight heroine that you read about all the time. She had a good head on her shoulders and didn’t allow Noah’s crazy life-style to completely take over her life. She was able to balance her career and business while still finding the time and patience to make a relationship work.

Noah was also a great character. He wasn’t your “I’m a fighter pilot, here me roar!” kind of guy. I mean he didn’t even tell Jordan what he did until later in the night when she asked about it. I liked that he didn’t boast what he did in order to get chicks. Plus, I liked that when she clearly didn’t know anything about his job and wasn’t at all as impressed as he thought she’d be, he didn’t get butt hurt. He just sort of laughed it off and let it all roll off his shoulders. Noah just seemed like a really cool dude.

I have to be honest and say that I don’t typically read military romance novels. In all honesty, they tend to bug the crap out of me. All too often the author writes the military member as a textbook character that spews out acronyms and military lingo at every turn, and that’s just not how it is in real life. Not everyone walks around sounding like a militant robot, and they are also not all alpha dogs. So, I was really happy to see that the author made her characters real. She gave them real personalities, real struggles that weren’t cliche and just for drama purposes, and she made you fall in love with them immediately.

This book made me smile and cry, and for me that means it’s a winner. Plus, like I said, I really liked how she handled the military aspect of the book. It wasn’t overdone and hyped up. It was just there. It was real. And it made me really enjoy this book. I can’t wait to continue with the series.

Favorite part…

His eyes narrowed. “Chicks dig the ‘stache.”
My hands fisted on my hips and a laugh escaped. “Newsflash, no one digs the ‘stache. You look like Chester the Molester.”
“Who the fuck is Chester the Molester?”
“Someone with a ‘stache exactly like yours.”

9 Thoughts on “Review: Fly With Me by Chanel Cleeton

  1. Hmm I keep putting off military romances since I don’t think I’ve read any in the past. I think I need to correct that soon. Glad you had a good time with this one!

  2. Lol…your favorite part sounds hilarious! I bought this one, but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. Great review! I am definitely looking forward to it now.

  3. Don’t forget PTSD! Although it’s understandable especially when they’ve been in combat. But not all vets or military people have it. I dislike its use for the sake of drumming up drama. I have book 2 of this, saving it for when I’m feeling swoony.

  4. I enjoyed this too! Hahaha – yes, that part about the ‘stach was funny. There were a lot of good scenes.

  5. I’m not a fan of military reads either, but I read the second book in this series and really enjoyed it. I think it’s the whole pilot thing…. yummo!

    • Maybe. I’ve never read one before and I read this book the first few weeks of living at the new place, which is just outside an airforce base. So, I kept looking up at all the jets going by and picturing the characters of the book.

  6. Aw yay. I’m glad you enjoyed this one! It was one of my only 5 star reads this year. She really did a knock out job with the military aspect in this one and in book two. Her hubby is a fighter pilot so I think that really helped with the feel of the books 😀

  7. This one’s on my wishlist! I heard a lot of good things about it and with every review I read I get more curious. It does sound interesting how the military aspect influences their relationship and brings some strain and to see them deal with it. I like how you describe the characters as being real as I usually like that in books. Great review!
