Desire collides with danger as a vampire and a shapeshifter cross paths in this searing MoonBound Clan story from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling paranormal romance author Larissa Ione.

After accidentally shifting into a wolf—and getting stuck—Tehya, herself a vampire, has spent the last twelve years as the pet of Lobo, another vampire who has the unique gift of communicating with wolves.

When Lobo found Tehya starving and nearly frozen to death, he took her in and nursed her back to health, all the while completely unaware that she was really a fellow vampire. But there was always something special about her, and he finds out exactly how special after she’s injured and returned to her true form. Desire collides with danger as he soon finds that he must protect not only Tehya but also himself…

I have really enjoyed this series but given that the last book came out in 2014, I sort of forgot about it. I wasn’t sure if another book would ever be made, and just sort of gave up hope on it. So, imagine my surprise and excitement when I saw that there was a new installment listed on NetGalley. I’m not normally one for novellas because I don’t end up making a connection with the characters or their world, but since I’ve read the previous two books in the series, I figured I’d be fine. Due to the major break between books, I kind of forgot some of the key elements to what was going on and wasn’t overly sure if Lobo was someone I had “met” previously and just forgotten. So, with that being said, if you wanted to read the novella without reading the previous books, you can. The author takes the time to sort of explain stuff without explaining stuff. So, I feel like this would be a great read for fans of the series as well as newcomers.

One thing I loved about this story was Tehya’s character. After becoming a vampire, Tehya accidentally shifts into a wolf and is unable to shift back. Unfamiliar with being a wolf and unable to hunt or properly care for herself as such, she ends up in a pretty bad state by the time Lobo comes across her. Thinking she’s a wolf, he mends her, and takes her on as his pet companion. He has no clue that the wolf who’s protected him and been by his side for twelve years is actually a fellow vampire. Even though the author sort of gives you an idea on how they came to pair up and their close connection to each other, I would have loved for this to be a full novel. Mainly because I would have just liked more time with Tehya.

One thing is for sure, I hope we don’t have to wait another 3 years for the next book to come out. I have really enjoyed this series and the world the author created. I know that vampires seem to be a dying breed in books lately, but the spin that the author puts on her vampires breathes new life into them and makes them fun to read again.

Favorite quote…

“She gave him a flat stare. It was the same stare she’d give him when he held a tasty treat out of reach to tease her before tossing it into the air for her to catch.

  1. oh I LOVE this series and I hope we don’t have to wait another three more years for more books. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pick this up seeing that its a novella but now I know I need to grab it up. Lovely review.

    • I was in the same boat. I don’t do novellas but I couldn’t pass it up because I’ve missed this series. I’m still not sure if Lobo was ever mentioned in the previous books. I’d have to go back and read them.

  2. I love her books. I haven’t read this one and it sounds good.

  3. What an interesting idea. Okay I’m totally curious about this series and I think this is something that needs to go on my wishlist.

  4. It has been years since I read a book by her…how time flies

  5. I completely forgot about this series, it looks like I read book 1 but not 2 *blinks* Thanks for the reminder!!

  6. I’m leaving the same comment as the last post lol – I haven’t read anything by this author before.

It’s hard to believe with all the books I read I haven’t at least read one of every author Bahahahaha!

    For What It’s Worth

  7. Yea, I love the series. I had given up hope that it would continue. So like you I was happy when I discovered that another would be released.

  8. Oh, I hate when there is a large gap in release dates. You know on shows where they say “previously on so and so…” I kind of wish they did that with books. LOL.

    Sounds like a good read!

  9. I read the first one in this series and really enjoyed it but had assumed it dropped off a cliff when it didn’t go beyond book 2. Glad to see it isn’t ‘dead’. 🙂

  10. This series has caught my attention more times than I can count but for some reason have never gotten around to starting it. It definitely sounds interesting, and sexy. Glad you were still able to like this one even though you had to refresh your mind on the story a bit. Hope the next one comes out early enough 🙂
