Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky — and unending — lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul.

Emma doesn’t realize that a ghost has been following her, keeping her safe for the last two years. It isn’t until a boy pushes her out of the way of a deadly incident and reveals that he’s not actually part of the living, that Emma finds out that all her near death experiences have been due to a malignant ghost who appears to be hell bent on killing her.

This was an interesting take on the forbidden love story. Obviously, a reaper cannot be with a human… when they don’t even have a body. However, that doesn’t stop Emma and Finn from falling in love. I thought it was a light and fun read that showed you both the living realm and you get a glimpse of hell. I liked how the author depicted how reapers reap and take corporeal form.

I also liked Cash and Emma’s relationship. I thought Cash was an interesting character and would really like to see him more in the upcoming books. You can tell how much he cares for Emma but their relationship is not like that at all. They’ve been best friends for years now and they always have each others backs.

  4. Forbidden love stories aren’t really my thing most of the time, but this does sound pretty cute. I don’t think I’ll ever get to it, but I’m glad you enjoyed!
