To seal a fragile truce, Fiona Sinclair’s brothers trade her in marriage to their sworn enemy. Though devastated by their betrayal, she has little choice in the matter, for if she refuses, her innocent young sister must take her place. Although the spirited Fiona is willing to sacrifice her freedom to protect her kin, she vows to never surrender her heart.

As eldest son of a clan chief, Myles Campbell is accustomed to having his own way. But when the Scottish King commands he wed a defiant Highland lass instead of the French mademoiselle who holds his heart, Myles must obey his royal duty. Meeting his bride for the first time on their wedding day, he is pleased to discover the lass is a beauty, but dismayed to learn she’d just as soon kill him as kiss him.

And thus begins an uneasy alliance.

When two such warrior spirits collide, sparks fly, igniting a fiery passion that strains against the bonds of family honor, clan loyalty—and the ultimate surrender – love.

This is a solid Historical Romance between two warring clans. In an attempt to keep the peace, Fiona is wed to her enemy clan’s son, Myles. All her life she’s been told they are barbarians, murderers, and she is beside herself to be wed to one of them. However, as she spends time at the Campbell clan’s home, she uncovers some secrets about her family that alters everything she knows.

I really enjoyed this story. Fiona is a very strong willed woman. She is not a wilting flower that can easily be swayed. She fights against her new husband and his family at every turn, certain they are up to something. Myles is exasperated with his wife. He was seeing another when news came that he was to wed Fiona. So it stands to reason that he is none too happy to be married to another. However, he tries to make the best of it. Except, his with is convinced he’s the devil and pushes him away every chance she can. Watching these two circle around each other was interesting to witness. You got to see Fiona grow as a woman and develop feelings for her husband. At the same time, you watch Myles finally woo his wife and find some peace. These two really complimented each other once they decided to come together as one.

Not only is there an enemy to lovers story going on, there’s also treason, and a lot of hidden secrets from the past that surface. Secrets that change everything in the story. We also get the POV of Fiona’s brother, John, while he navigates a very peculiar situation that puts his and his entire family’s lives in jeopardy. I really liked that the author didn’t just focus on the conflict that would come from a marriage between two warring clans. She added other elements to the story to keep in interesting and leave the readers on the edge of their seats. If you are in the market for a historical romance, definitely give this book a read.
