Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

My thoughts…

Evelyn wakes up after a night of celebrating her 21st birthday in Vegas married to a complete stranger. She doesn’t remember anything about their night and before she knows it, her husband is leaving the hotel room with the promise of his lawyers taking care of it all. It isn’t until she gets home that she realizes that the man she’s married to is none other than guitarist, Dave Ferris, from one of the hottest bands out right now. Pretty soon her life is swamped with paparazzi and she’s swept up and flown out to L.A. to sign annulment papers. However, when she gets out there, neither of them are ready to give up on the marriage.

Lick was a great combination of rockstar romance and the whole drunken Vegas wedding thing. It was great that Evelyn had no idea who David was at first and I think that’s what really drew him in. She didn’t treat him like anything other than a human being. However, it’s made perfectly clear that Evelyn doesn’t fit into his world in L.A.. She’s a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl and he’s surrounded by airbrushed perfection at every turn. I loved that Evelyn was really down to earth and didn’t try to play up to her surroundings in order to fit in.

While I enjoyed Evelyn, David was a bit hard to swallow sometimes. He had such mood swings that left you wondering if he was on drugs. I get that he had abandonment issues but for being almost 30 years old, he sure did act like he was the one that had just turned 21. However, his moodiness didn’t ruin the story for me. I actually enjoyed that we got a look at the band and while there wasn’t a lot of band time and the book wasn’t in David’s POV, it was still interesting with the glimpses we got.

Lick was an enjoyable read. It had romance, steam, rockstars, and a good ol’ drunken Vegas wedding. I like that each book in the series is going to focus on each of the band members. I definitely plan to continue with the series.

Favorite part…

” ‘You’ve exceeded all of my expectations. I wanted you to let your hair down a little. Get a life and give mankind another chance. But this is a whole new level of crazy you’ve ascended to. Do you really have a tattoo?’
‘Yes.’
‘Of his name?’
I sighed and nodded.
‘Where, might I inquire?’
I shut my eyes tight. ‘My left butt cheek.’
Lauren lost it, laughing so hard that tears started streaming down her face.
Perfect “

  1. The cover of this book reminds me of a book by Jay Crownover! And HELLO tattooed men are my FAV. LOL. this book sounds like it’s right up my alley actually! I’m so glad I saw your review for it! I just recently finished reading Built (Saints of Denver #1) by Jay and it was fantastic, so I was hoping to read another one of hers soon but maybe I’ll try this one! I’m always up for finding new authors that I might enjoy!
And I can’t stop giggling that this story is called “Lick.” too funny!

    • It sounds like this book would be right up your alley. I’ve read Rule by Jaw Crownover and am just waiting for the other books to be available at my library. Built looks good too. I can see what you mean about the covers. They do look similar. I will have to see if my library has that one, too. 🙂

  2. Oh it’s hard when they act SO young compared to their ages. Glad that didn’t ruin it for ya. I had this borrowed from the library and the cats did unmentionable things to it before I could read it. Ah! lol

  3. I agree, the moodiness was no bueno but the rest was pretty good.

  4. Kristin great review. I have heard great things about this book and author but have yet to try it. That is good his moodiness did not ruin the story for you.
