Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose.

Kate Daniels works for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle – especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community. When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar on the border between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers that there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years – and who rode to war at the side of Kate’s father. This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Beast Lord, to handle. Because this time Kate will be taking on family.

1thoughtsThis book really stepped up to the plate. I’m finally starting to get why everyone is in love with this series. There’s bloody fights, sexual tension and mystery all wrapped up in one story. I will admit that up until this point I was kind of scratching my head wondering why everyone is in love with this series. However, now I’m starting to see the appeal.

I’m glad that Curran and Kate are finally moving forward. They each show that they are ready to make this mating thing work and I couldn’t be happier. Apparently, showing you’re ready to mate means rearranging the other persons place. So in true Kate fashion, she goes in and welds stuff together in Curran’s place. Of course, Curran retaliates and the whole thing was pretty funny. I liked that this story finally started picking up on the romance aspect, which was why I started reading it in the first place.

There of course is also a lot of fighting and crime solving. There were a couple of times where it looked really bleak but of course everything pulls through in the end.

For me, I wish there was more Curran and Kate time but I guess now that things are moving forward with them, I will get more time with the two characters. I really like the two of them together. They are both hard headed and tough as nails but when they love, they will go to the ends of the earth to protect that person.

I think aside from the romance, I also really liked the furry four legged addition, and no I’m not talking about a shifter. I thought it was brilliant and it definitely wasn’t something I was expecting.

  1. Magic Bleeds definitely kicked it up a notch in the series. I’m loving this series so much though. I just finished the latest book in it and I’m already wanting the next one right now 😛

    • Oh my. I wonder what book is out now… the tenth? LoL I am so far behind on them. But on the bright side, I don’t have to wait as long between books because they are all out. 😛 By the time I catch up the series will probably be over.

  2. Been wanting to pick up an Illona Andrews book for some time now. I’ve heard good things about this series. It seems really exciting, especially since there’s action and crime solving. Glad you liked this one. Good review.

    • I picked it up because everyone wouldn’t stop talking about it. My curiosity won out and my library had a copy. So, I borrowed it. 🙂 Glad I picked it up. While I’m not in love with it like the majority of readers, I am enjoying it.

  3. This is my second favorite book of the series. I love when Kate and Curran mess with each other’s stuff. priceless! Happy you are started to love this series.

  4. Curran!!! Love me some Curran. I had a hard-ish time with the first book but after that I was pretty caught. I’m so glad to hear they’re getting to ya 😀

  5. Yay, I am so happy you are understanding why we are fangirling all over this series!!

  6. I’ve heard good things about this series. I’m worried that it took till book four for you to really get on the band wagon. I still might give it a go one day.

    • I snagged a copy from my library. So, if they have a copy at yours I’d give it a go. Everyone loves it but it just took me a bit to get into it. Maybe when I read them I just wasn’t in the mood for them. :\ Who knows.

  7. Oh my, when am I gonna get updated with this series?!

    • I usually like reading a series after it’s come out. That way you don’t have to wait for the next book to be published. 😉 Not sure when this one will end though since it seems to keep growing.

  8. Sigh… it has been ages since I read Magic Bleeds, but I loved that bit when Kate went into Curran’s! Those two are so funny! I need to get back into this series and catch up, I have to read the last two!

    • I’m starting to feel the chemistry between the two. I just wasn’t feeling it before now. I am hoping that see more moments like that in the following books.
