Krystal is heading into Penton for a job interview. Sure she’s a little perturbed by the late night interview request but a job is a job after all. And the fact that in Penton she could be her own boss? Well that just seals the deal. However, when she rolls into Penton her skills are put to the test when she comes across Aiden, her potential employer with a man who was attacked and in dire need of medical assistance. When she proves her skills to Aiden, he is all too quick to hire her, but then she finds herself not only held against her will in Penton, but surrounded by vampires as well.

Aiden is probably the most civilized vampire that you will come across. If you didn’t know any better, you would assume him to be human. Kidnapping Krystal goes against everything he believes in but with his brother on the attack, he is in desperate need of a doctor. He expects Krystal to be be pissed at the situation and loathe him, but he isn’t prepared for not only the mating pull towards her but the fact that she is attracted to him as well.

This was a good vampire story. It flows really well between the different points of view. The whole idea that there is a vaccine out there that keeps vampires from feeding from humans was an interesting twist. Aiden has come up with a solution to this dilemma though. He finds humans who haven’t been vaccinated and with their willingness, bonds them to his scathe so that other vampires can’t come in and feed from them. They all live in a town separated from everyone and everything. But with Aiden’s brother attacking his quiet town, everything is chaotic.

The story was predictable in parts but it was still a pleasure to read. There were some instances where I would have loved to hit Krystal upside the head for her idiocy but we all have our flaws I guess. Like I said, it was an interesting take on a classic vampire romance. I look forward to what happens next at Penton… or maybe we catch up with Mirren, Aiden’s right hand man? (I really hope so!)
