Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka His Royal Hotness, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant; hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.

Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.

Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.

There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces, and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately, the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.

But to Olivia, Nicholas is worth it.

Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is and, more importantly, who he wants to be: a King… or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

My thoughts…

Royally Screwed is pretty much Prince William and Kate Middleton fanfiction. You have a Prince Nicholas who stumbles across Olivia when in New York. He falls head over heals in love with her, even though she is not royalty and for all intents and purposes not an acceptable candidate as Princess or Queen. His grandmother is the Queen, Prince Nicholas’ parents are no longer around due to a horrible accident, and his younger brother, Henry, just got out of the military and is in all out party mode 24/7. Sound familiar? Now, I’m not sure if the author actually planned on this being a fanfiction but it was so hard not to picture William, Harry, Queen Elizabeth, Kate, and even Pippa… since Olivia has a younger sister named Ellie. Not saying that’s a bad thing but I wasn’t expecting a fanfic on the British royals. I was expecting something a bit more original.

One thing I have to say is that Prince Nicholas is a Grade A dickhead. From the start he’s entitled, pompous, and not that swoon-worthy. He propositions Liv to sleep with him for money, because everyone can be bought. He insults her and her family’s business. Not to mention the fact that he proposes a deal where she becomes his mistress while he marries another woman of “royal blood” to produce little heirs with. And that last one was towards the end of the book! I wanted to like Nicholas and there were times when I found him slightly charming but in all honesty, he just didn’t do it for me.

The writing was also a little lacking for me. There were pages and pages of internal drivel that just bored me to tears. I don’t need to read pages upon pages about how you want to bang her, or how sexy her lips are, or an in-depth breakdown of how your bed was masterfully created. No! Just stop. Sadly, I felt like this book fell under the tell-not-show aspect of writing. There was just so much information dumped onto the reader that I lost focus of the story. Rather then HEAR about how horny Prince Nicholas was for PAGES I would have liked to SEE him do something about it or at least just follow him around visually while he did his thing. Instead I was stuck in their heads the entire time and it was boring. Needless to say, I skimmed the crap out of this novel.

I loved this author’s Legal Briefs series. It made me laugh, swoon, and I think I may have even cried. If I didn’t know who wrote this and you told me it was Emma Chase I would tell you that you’re wrong because she can write some amazing stuff. However, this is not one of them. I actually got this book for free when I won a $5 ebook gift card and I was really excited to use it ALL on this ebook, but now I just feel ripped off. I had such high hopes for this book, I mean… just LOOK AT THAT COVER!!… but pretty covers do not always equate to great books. And thus is the case with Royally Screwed.

Favorite part…

Prince Nicholas is flying Liv and Tommy, one of his security detail, in his helicopter. It’s Liv’s first time flying and understandably she’s freaked out. When Prince Nicholas banks the helicopter into a turn she panics and the scene was kind of funny.

“‘Oh my God! We’re tipping!’ She grabs my arm.
‘Olivia, we’re not tipping.’
‘Yes we are! Lean! Lean this way!’ She shifts her weight away from windowin the opposite direction of our embankment.
And Tommy, trying to be helpful, leans with her.”
