June wants high school to end and real life to begin. Oliver is soaking up senior year’s glory days. They could have coasted through high school, knowing about—but not really knowing—each other.

Except that their moms have arranged for Oliver to drive June to school. Every. Single. Day.

Suddenly these two opposites are fighting about music, life . . . pretty much everything. But love is unpredictable. When promises—and hearts—get broken, Oliver and June must figure out what really matters. And then fight for it.

My thoughts…

This is a cute story. You have June who’s really just ready to get high school over with so that she can get to the part in life that matters. Meanwhile, we have Oliver who feels that high school is something you will look back on for the rest of your life. It’s the time where memories are made. It’s interesting seeing these two interact when their mothers force them together to carpool to school every morning. It’s not that these two are strangers, I mean, their moms have been best friends since they were young, but it’s not as if Oliver and June are friends. They run in two completely different circles at school. Needless to say, when you put these two together in a vehicle every morning, it gets pretty entertaining.

While this book gave me the warm and fuzzies when it comes to first love, I have to admit that June did get on my nerves. I mean, she’s a smart girl but she sort of seemed like she was on a high horse the majority of the book. She walks around and either verbally or mentally puts people down and views herself above them. She prides herself on her “oh so advanced” vocabulary and seems to stick her nose up at those who don’t have the same vocabulary as she. Heck, some of the time I didn’t even know what the word meant! So, yeah, I could have done without June’s judgmental views.

Oliver was the perfect balance for June. He was like an overly excited golden retriever. He was always bounding around the halls of school with a big smile on his face. He didn’t seem to care much about anything and was just enjoying life to the fullest. Even when he did something that made you want to smack him upside the head, you couldn’t stay mad at him for long.

While the two of them are opposites it was cute watching them slowly build a friendship. It was a bit frustrating to see them tiptoe around their feelings for each other but, I mean, it’s high school! I don’t know about you, but I was never very blunt when I was a teenager. So, I can’t really fault them for not just coming out and expressing their feelings sooner. Especially since they were both dating people at the time.

Shuffle, Repeat is a light and cute book about your senior year of high school. It was a quick read and one that left a smile on my face the entire time I read it.

Favorite part…

“How about this. How about we draw the boundary at truth in general. If you have a stupid fight with Itch or if you spill pizza on your shirt or get spinach stuck in your teeth or have toilet paper stuck to your shoe, I will absolutely tell you.”
“How come I’m such a hot mess in this scenario?”

5 Thoughts on “Review: Shuffle, Repeat by Jen Klein

  1. June would bother me as well. I would, however, try the book based on your favorite part. That sounds so cute. Brilly review.

  2. Aw that sounds adorable! The cover is totally cute too. Yay for the warm and fuzzies 😀

  3. What a cute cover! And it sounds like the story is adorable as well. the set-up sounds interesting with their different outlooks on life and high school and how they are forced to carpool together. Too bad that June is a bit judgemental, but the rest of the book sounds good!

  4. This sounds great!! And I totally agree with you; teens NEVER say what they feel! That’s like asking for your heart to be broken. Never will happen!!! 🙂

I love these type of stories. Great review!!!

  5. I had never heard of this book, but it’s on my radar now. Luckily my library has it, so I put it on hold. Nice review. 🙂
