Presented by James Patterson’s new children’s imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion…

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story’s shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling, #1 New York Times bestselling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

Stalking Jack the Ripper is a dark, twisted, morbid read, and it’s absolutely perfect for October. Since Audrey Rose is apprenticing under her uncle, who is a medical examiner, she is surrounded by dead bodies on a daily basis. She’s dissecting them and trying to determine their cause of death. So, there is quite a bit of gory detail on corpses and cutting open and harvesting organs from said corpses.

Since there’s a serial killer on the loose, she and her uncle are presented with a huge puzzle. What do all of these women have in common? Why is the killer targeting them? Are there any clues to these women’s deaths that will help them catch the killer? Of course, our heroine takes it upon herself to do a bit of sleuthing to try to figure out who the killer is on her own. Let’s just say things don’t always go exactly to plan.

I really liked that the author tried to keep some historical facts accurate in her book. While she may have changed around dates or made up a backstory for people who didn’t already have one, a lot of information that is in this book is true to the Jack the Ripper case. While I’m not familiar at all with JtR, it was nice that the author added a note at the end of the book going over everything they tried to incorporate into her story. It makes the story that much more creepier knowing that she laid out the deaths of real women who were murdered.

Stalking Jack the Ripper is the perfect read for October. Between the murders, the suspense, and the medical examinations in her uncle’s lab, I found myself both disgusted and intrigued.
