During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle “Tricks” Periwinkle found sanctuary among the Wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle’s death, there are those who don’t want to see her ascend to the throne.

Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr’s best weapons. And he’s sent to protect Tricks when she’s almost assassinated in Chicago.

Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them—a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.

1thoughts
In the last book Dragon Bound, Dragos kills Urien who is the Dark Fae King. Urien killed Niniane’s family when she was young and took over as king while she hid away with Dragos for hundreds of years. Now that the King is dead it is time for Niniane to take her rightful place at the thrown. However, it is easier said that done. There are people that are out for her blood and would like nothing else than to see her dead before her coronation. So when Niniane comes up missing after an attack on her life Tiago takes off immediately to find the faerie and protect her.

I must admit that it didn’t have as much romance as the first book in the series. However, the tension in Tiago is apparent as he starts go from bodyguard to entranced by Niniane as the book progresses. It was interesting to see this macho killing alpha fall prey to love. Not only that but to the one woman who pushes him to the edge of his patience and has the power to bring him back from his beast, the Thunderbird.

Niniane was such a vivacious character in Dragon Bound that I was thrilled that she has her own book. She was known as “Tricks” before and is this little spitfire faerie who despite her size and looks, will take you down in a split second with her poisoned stilettos. She is adamant that no matter what is thrown at her, she will not run back to NY and hide behind Dragos. She is determined to move forward and claim her place as Queen of the Dark Fae.

Harrison has a great way of not only setting the stage for her characters but also with making you fall in love with them within a few pages. There were a couple of parts in the book where Tiago stakes his claim on Niniane before he even realizes what he’s doing and it just really made my heart squeeze for the guy. He’s thousands of years old and has never experienced love and has no idea what is going on in his head. There are a handful attacks on Niniane throughout the book and the pace is set so high for Niniane to make it to her coronation before she is assassinated that you don’t overly miss the romance part of the story. One thing I was a little put off on was Tiago’s mushiness. He went from hard core mercenary to this love stuck puppy in 2 seconds flat. I wish he had maintained a bit of his roughness throughout the book.

“Trying to care about that,” he said. He cocked his head and widened his eyes. “Huh. I guess I’m not managing it.”
