This was an adorable story of two people who are complete opposites who just so happen to fall in love. Hannah is a music major who is not about the “scene” life. Garrett is the “it” guy, captain of the hockey team. Neither of them really cross paths. However, when Garrett starts failing one of his classes, that Hannah just so happens to excel in, Garrett makes it him mission to get her to tutor him. What starts out as a simple deal of Hannah tutoring Garrett in exchange for him helping her snag her crush, turns in to so much more when their business arrangement turns into friendship and then into more.
I really enjoyed this story. I thought the growth between Garrett and Hannah was perfect. Both have things they have to overcome, and both go through a lot of growth by the end of the book. Not only do they get to that point on their own, but it’s their friendship that helps give them the strength to face their demons. I honestly think their friendship was the best part of the entire book. Garrett is just such an in your face kind of guy that doesn’t give up. It was hard not to immediately like him.
There are some heavy points that are brought up in this book that for a moment made me feel like maybe it was only brought up to be “touchy”. However, over time I realized that those instances shaped the characters and wasn’t just a ploy to make the story edgy. We are not witness to the acts themselves since they are in the past, but it stands to mention that if r@pe and domestic violence are triggers, than you might want to skip this book.
The Deal is a fun romantic read. It had me smiling more times than I could count at Garrett’s ridiculousness and just the sweet demeanor he has towards Hannah. If you’re in the mood for a new adult romance, then definitely give this book a read.
