Add a curse, a conniving nightly news anchor, a stunningly handsome daredevil fireman, a brave little boy, a couple of exes, and one giant fire to the mix, and Melissa and Brody’s love may not be the only thing that burns.

Melissa’s grandmother is hell bent on helping her granddaughter find her happily ever after. Which is why she tricks her into not only attending a fireman bachelor auction, but also conveniently feels ill on the night of the date, making Melissa take her place. Melissa has no desire to date a fireman. She likes more sophisticated guys, not guys who are into monster trucks and think it’s funny to play pranks on each other. However, Melissa was not prepared to meet Capt. Brody and his brooding, infuriating personality. He’s got a stick up his butt about news stations and how they skew the truth and sensationalize a touchy subject just for ratings. One thing these two can’t deny, is that sparks fly when they are together, but is it the good kind of sparks or the volatile one?

Clearly we know what kind of sparks they are. Otherwise this would be one crappy romance book. What? It’s the truth! So, with that being said… not a whole lot of surprises happening in this book. Now, the author does throw some curve balls, but I honestly found them unnecessary. I mean, having ex’s pop back up just to stir the pop is kind of old and boring. I felt like these two had enough on their plate without there needing to be extra drama.

I did enjoy this story though. I thought it was cute the way these two danced around each other. I also liked the meddling grandma. That woman was a hoot. If they turned this into a movie, Betty White would be perfect for the role. I mean, she not only tries to set her granddaughter up on a date that she pays for, but then inserts herself into everything, and gets rather uppity when another woman encroaches on Melissa’s man, aka Capt. Brody.

This was a cute, quick, romantic read revolving around firefighters and a news producer. It was interesting getting to be witness to both Brody’s and Melissa’s job and all the little tidbits that go with it. I’m not overly sure if I will continue with this series, though. It’s a little too cookie cutter for me, and right now I’m in the mood for something more unpredictable.
