Nathaniel Reis screwed up. He put his career as an air force pilot before his marriage to Tess, and wound up divorced. Now that he’s left the service, he has a plan to fix things, if only he can get her alone for a few days.

When Tess misses her flight to a corporate retreat, Nat’s there with his island-hopper plane and a plot to get stranded in paradise thanks to “mechanical problems.” But his plan goes awry when a storm blows them off course and they have to make a real emergency landing-and not on the island where he’s stashed supplies.

Tess is furious. She’s anxious to get to her retreat, and away from Nat. She’s even angrier that being so close to him arouses her in a way she hasn’t been for a long time. Rescue can’t come soon enough, but in the meantime, she’s going to have to trust Nat to keep her safe. Even if she’s in danger of falling for him all over again.

1thoughts
For being a short story, I thought it was a good story. However, I had a little bit of a problem with Tess and the reasoning behind why she left her husband in the first place. I guess with me being a military wife, I expect long nights and days where my husband doesn’t come home. It is part of the job. So for Tess to leave Nat because he was spending too much time at work just didn’t seem like a good enough reason for me. With that being said though, I did find that the story was entertaining for being as short as it was. There wasn’t a lot of information dumping, just short recaps of what went wrong.

The only characters that were in this book are Tess and Nat. The story starts off with them in the airport and goes straight to them landing on a deserted island. The entire book is about Nate trying to win back his ex-wife. I liked Nat and his persistence, no matter how many times she pushed him away he always came back trying harder. Even though I didn’t feel like the marriage falling apart was his fault, he really manned up and took responsibility and tried to show her that he was a changed man.

“You talk about trust, and you’re the person I trust most in the world. The person I want at my back and by my side. I’d hoped to show you that on the island. I hoped to remind you what a good team we make. I wanted to ask you to come back to me and try again. I swear I’ll listen to you, and work with you, and love you, and never take advantage again.” -Nate
