Twisted Palace is the finale of Ella and Reed’s story. This has been one over-dramatic soap opera of a series and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. What started off as sort of a Cinderella story of Ella being plucked from a strip joint where she was working and brought to her guardian’s house which was a mansion, has become this crazy insane rollercoaster of a ride. There was your typical catty high school kids at first but the story soon spiraled to some pretty heavy stuff like attempted gang rape, assault with a deadly weapon, unexpected pregnancies with a sprinkling of “who’s the daddy”, murder, and people coming back from the dead. This series was all over the place and I was never sure what was going to happen next.
While this story had me flipping pages to see what absurdity was in store for these characters next, I felt like Twisted Palace was a bit ho-hum. This installment seemed to be slowed way down from the previous books and it didn’t have that same edge-of-your-seat feel to it. It wasn’t until the last 10% of the book that things picked up and got interesting. Now, I’m not saying the story was bad, but given how insane the series has been, this book just seemed like some tame, watered down version of its predecessors.
The series (or at least the first three books) was definitely nothing like I thought it’d be. I initially thought this was a book about a royal family, not a rich family with the surname Royal. I definitely was not expecting a new adult version of a soap opera. There was just so much going on in the first couple of books that I couldn’t seem to put the books down. While this book may not have been my favorite, it still had my attention because I wanted to see how everything would play. The next book will follow a different Royal brother and while he’s not necessarily one I’m dying to get my hands on, I’ll be tuning in to see what’s really going on in his head. If I’m being honest though, I really want to know about the twins who have a relationship with the same girl. I’ve been dying to get their story since the first book.
