So, Twisted Summer was interesting. When Danni is sent off to spend the week with her mother’s estranged step brother, the last thing she expects is to find herself attracted to her sort of uncle. After all, she thought she was a lesbian. However, when her sort of uncle starts showing interest in her, things get a little weird really quickly as they develop a romance.

I know that they weren’t blood and Gabe has been estranged from the family just about her entire life. So it’s not like he watched her grow up, and played her uncle her entire life. Her mom practically shipped her daughter off to a 29 year old man’s house. So, as long as I kept that in the back of my mind, I was fine. However, the author kept reminding the reader of Gabe’s status and it just kind of made me feel weird. Especially when the author wrote some pretty explicit sex scenes. Kinda takes you out of the mood of the scene when freezing water is splashed on you by the word “uncle”.

I think this story has potential. If it weren’t for the constant reminders of her “not uncle”, and the slight creepiness of his advancing on her the way that he did, I probably would have enjoyed this story a lot more. I thought it was just taboo enough without going too far into Grossville. One thing that I wish we had gotten was the story on what happened after their family found out about their romance. I feel like that would have made one hell of a story.
