The flame never dies . . .

Millie Cross knows what it’s like to burn for someone. She was young and wild and he was fierce and even wilder-a Chaos biker who made her heart pound. They fell in love at first sight and life was good, until she learned she couldn’t be the woman he needed and made it so he had no choice but to walk away. Twenty years later, Millie’s chance run-in with her old flame sparks a desire she just can’t ignore. And this time, she won’t let him ride off . . .

Bad boy Logan “High” Judd has seen his share of troubles with the law. Yet it was a beautiful woman who broke him. After ending a loveless marriage, High is shocked when his true love walks back into his life. Millie is still gorgeous, but she’s just a ghost of her former self. High’s intrigued at the change, but her betrayal cut him deep-and he doesn’t want to get burned again. As High sinks into meting out vengeance for Millie’s betrayal, he’ll break all over again when he realizes just how Millie walked through fire for her man . . .

Own the Wind was a tough read for me and I wound up not finishing it. However, Ride Steady came around and my interest in the series rekindled. I really enjoyed their story and was looking forward to reading High’s story next. However, my interest is dwindling fast again.

Walk Through Fire starts off pretty intense. You know this is going to be a second chance romance but I honestly never expected it to be so raw and gritty. Which, normally is a great thing for me, but High was a bit too intense and crass for me. The angry sex they have made me a bit uncomfortable and it felt like it toed the line into some unforgivable territory. I also felt like the story drags on for no reason. I found myself skimming complete chapters just to get back to something actually happening. We get both the past and the present story for these two. Which is great since you want to know what sort of bond then had before, but I don’t really need to read a whole chapter about how they all sat around with friends, drinking, playing cards, and watching TV. There was so much that I felt could have been completely cut out and it would have had no impact on the story whatsoever.

I got about halfway through the book and these two were patching things up and moving on. So, I’m not overly sure why there’s still so many pages left to the book. I was really dragging my feet to want to pick it back up and continue reading every time I put it down. Which was when I knew it was time to call it quits. I really enjoyed Joker’s book, but High is not a man I’d be able to stick with after he treated me in such a demeaning manner. I don’t care how angry you are about the way we parted over 20 years ago. A 40 year old man should know better and there’s no amount of cuddling up that could erase that for me.

Favorite quote…

“There’s shit you gotta know about me too. But we didn’t walk through fire only to get to the end of that and not get our reward. If we can walk through fire, baby, we can do anything.”

  1. uh oh. better luck next time

  2. Oh man that sucks. Sorry this one wasn’t for you and I do think I’d probably feel the same. Seems like other people I know also felt this way. I will try the author but not the series. Brilly review.

  3. Yeah, some things are unforgiveable and being treated badly is one of them. I wouldn’t have liked him at all.

  4. It doesn’t really sound like one that I would like.

  5. I love this series and I think Joker’s book is my favourite too… I need to read Rush’s and I’ve finished the series. I’m hoping for something really special with Rush.

I can see why you had problems with this one but I loved it in the end. It’s beyond uncomfortable at times but it made me smile and it made me cry and I dunno… It just struck a cord that put it in the like column despite its issues.

Hound’s story is a gut-puncher. It has different issues and as per usual with a Kristen Ashley novel it’s unnecessarily wordy but Hound stole my heart so hopefully he will steal yours too if you continue with the series. 🙂
