Curiosity is definitely going to get me dead one of these days. Probably real soon.

I’m Gin Blanco.

You might know me as the Spider, the most feared assassin in the South. I’m retired now, but trouble still has a way of finding me. Like the other day when two punks tried to rob my popular barbecue joint, the Pork Pit. Then there was the barrage of gunfire on the restaurant. Only, for once, those kill shots weren’t aimed at me. They were meant for Violet Fox. Ever since I agreed to help Violet and her grandfather protect their property from an evil coalmining tycoon, I’m beginning to wonder if I’m really retired. So is Detective Donovan Caine. The only honest cop in Ashland is having a real hard time reconciling his attraction to me with his Boy Scout mentality. And I can barely keep my hands off his sexy body. What can I say? I’m a Stone elemental with a little Ice magic thrown in, but my heart isn’t made of solid rock. Luckily, Gin Blanco always gets her man . . . dead or alive.

1thoughtsGin’s decided to take the advice from her late handler and retire as the Spider. She’s put her assassin days behind her and instead spends them running her BBQ restaurant, Pork Pit. However, when trouble rears its ugly head in her restaurant and threatens to not only harm her, but her customers as well, Gin starts to rethink her retirement. Add onto that the fact that her late handler’s old friend is seeking his help to get rid of a problem. Yeah, Gin finds herself coming out of retirement really quick.

One thing I really like about Gin is that she isn’t a cold-blooded killer. Well, okay, maybe she is, but she has reasons behind why she kills the people she does. She doesn’t just blindly kill people on request. She needs a good reason for it. Say, like trying to rape and kill a young girl just to bend her grandfather’s arm backwards into selling his home and livelihood over to a coal mining tycoon. Or, when someone is known to be a pedophile and rapes a little girl. That’s the kind of scum that Gin is all too happy to get rid off.

Web of Lies did not disappoint. It was full of action, death, sexual tension, and was just an all around enjoyable read. I found myself unable to put the book down because I wanted to know what Gin would do next. Heck, there was so much going on that there really wasn’t a stopping point to just put the book down. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.

10 Thoughts on “Review: Web of Lies by Jennifer Estep

  1. I love this series!! Glad you enjoyed 😀

    • I was able to pick up a handful of books from the series. I’m missing the next book and the library doesn’t have it to borrow so I will have to wait to see if I can find it at another book sale or buy it online. So far though, I’m really enjoying it.

  2. I’m so happy to see that you’re cat him up with this series! It’s a favorite for sure

    • So far it’s great. I need to get my hands on the next book. My library doesn’t have a copy so it may be a little bit until I read the next book in the series.

  3. So happy you are loving this series. I love that Gin is a soft, lovable killer! 😀

    • LoL. Yeah, she’s definitely interesting. I think that’s what makes this series so great. Yes, she’s a killer but she’s really kind and likable.

  4. I think I’m like the last one who hasn’t read this series. lol I know I need to give them a go. They sound like a good time 😀

    • They are really good. I know that I was late to the party but I’m trying to catch up. Every time a new book comes out in the series, everyone raves about it. So, it seems to still be a big hit.

  5. * Sigh * Another series I want to read! Action, death and sexual tension… what more can a girl want??
