After an attempted suicide Carter finds himself in a coma. He is able to hear the world around him, yet he can’t move. What he hears propels Carter to begin to see life in a new way, especially when one of his nurses, Kinley, shares parts of her tragic past with him. Soon, Carter realizes he is falling in love with her.

Months after being transferred from the hospital, to a rehabilitation facility, he suddenly wakes up with a passion to live that he never had before and a determination to find the one person he feels may be able to help him put the pieces of his life together again. However, when he returns to the hospital, Kinley is gone and Carter must try to find her based solely on the things she shared with him while he was in a coma.

Only, nothing is as it seems and Carter learns the biggest lesson of them all… the differences between expectation, perception, and reality.

Sneak peek

The dream was vivid. Kinley was standing there, her beautiful, long honey blonde hair whipping in the wind. The sun was rising over her shoulder, which caused her to have a halo around her. She smiled, and the sun seemed to be all around her at once. He couldn’t see her face clearly, but he could feel her beauty none the less. She was perfect. Then, as she took a step toward him, she started to morph into a bunch of tiny burgers.

Burgers? Wait, what?

That was enough to bring Carter to consciousness again.

Carter thought he must still be dreaming, because the sun was so bright. Kinley wasn’t there anymore, only the sun. He thought it was weird that the sun was stuck to a plate. Then Carter quickly realized with incredible vividness that it was a ceiling.

A ceiling.

Carter closed his eyes. He slightly cracked them and light flooded in. He immediately closed them again. After repeating a thousand times or so, he tried to lift an arm, which seemed to weigh a ton. He couldn’t tell if he was lifting it or not, but he didn’t think so.

Crashing into the room, basically yelling into his phone was his least favorite person. “Where are you? How can you not be here before me? We work at the same place and I stopped for gas Claire!” Wayne huffed into the phone, “I do not want to sit-” Wayne stopped abruptly, “Claire, Claire! Let me call you back!”

Can he see me? Thank God! Wayne, Wayne, go get someone.

“Oh? Hell, no! If she sees your eyes open and close like that she’ll be convinced you are going to wake up and set up camp outside the room.” Carter could barely see a shadow looming over him through the slits in his eyes, “You haven’t put the family through enough there, Carter, die already.” Carter heard the tones of Wayne’s phone, “Yeah, sorry I was rude. They have to take him to PT. No need in coming tonight. I’ll meet you at your parents. I know, I know, but it wasn’t my call. You know doctors; they can switch things up on you anytime they want. See you there, Sweetie.”

Continually throughout the night, Carter tried to open and close his eyes until he actually felt tired and drifted off to sleep.

“Good morning. I have a surprise!” his mother’s cheerful voice sounded similar to a twinkling wind chime.

I have one, too.

“I found that book Kinley was always reading to you. I couldn’t remember the name, but I surely remembered the cover and… and… Carter?” His mother’s shadow appearing over him was enough to cause him to shed a tear through his partially opened eye.

    Sounds good

  2. I haven’t read many where the guy attempted suicide, I wonder why that is. Is it more common for women or just not as acknowledged that men do it too

  3. Ok – I have to say that I read the snippet and the writing seems a bit choppy, but I am interested anyway. This premise is genius! I can’t wait to give this book a go.

    Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  4. Thanks for being on the tour! 🙂

  5. That sounds like it would be good.

  6. The title sounds ominous. I’d be very curious to read it. Thanks for the giveaway!

  7. I love the name of the cover.
