Sneak Peek Wednesday: The Hashtag Hunt by Kristina Seek (Giveaway)

The Hashtag Hunt
by Kristina Seek
Publisher: Self-Published
Publication Date: Dec. 9, 2018
Genre: Romance

The only reason Lauren entered the Hashtag Hunt was for the $10,000 grand prize. She needed seed money for her startup, and it sounded easy enough: twelve hours to text twelve photos to someone called the Wizard. For hashtag number five, Lauren needs a #HottieInTheWild, and with the help of her best friend, Ivy, she finds the perfect subject.

The only reason Brenner entered Barkley’s Pub was to have beers with Scott, an Army brother back in town. The reunion is interrupted when a woman is caught crouched in a dark corner, taking pictures of Brenner. Lauren explains, and though embarrassed, she accepts Scott and Brenner’s offer to help with hashtag number six.
While hunting for hashtags, Lauren finds adventure and romance with her #Hottie, but she must stay focused to beat the clock and win the cash.

Sneak Peek

Brenner was distracted when a mountain of a man charged the bar and crowded the space beside him. He tore the top sheet off his order pad with a sigh and said, “Got me an eight top out to get white girl wasted.” He tilted his head toward a group of women settling into the curved booth in the back corner. Brenner and the bartender looked over and saw a few of the ladies reading the laminated menus, but most of them were scrutinizing the ambiance and patrons of Barkley’s. “Now don’t flip out on me, but they like their booze fancy.” Brenner thought the waiter’s baritone voice complemented his ebony skin, bald head, and massive build. The bartender looked at the drink order. Her rockabilly updo didn’t move as she shook her head and laughed. “Anthony, those women walked into a bar with peanut shells on the floor. If they want,” her eyes scanned the paper, “roasted cherry bourbon smash and rose petal sangria, they need to sashay their little Botox book club further on down the road.” She smacked the paper on the bar and slowly slid it toward Anthony. “Sorry. No can do.”

Anthony placed his right hand on his hip as his left hand smacked the drink order. “We may never know why, but those ladies came here of all places to have some fun tonight. They sat in my section, and with the new baby and all…” He leaned down, looked her in the eyes, and used one finger to slowly slide the drink order back in front of the bartender. “Do not block my cash flow, woman.”

“Okay, Anthony. Calm the hell down.” She picked up the order and reread it. “Listen here, I understand cash flow better than anybody, but a…‘saffron howler’ ain’t happening.” She rolled her eyes. “Can’t they just order the house white like normal women?”

“I’ll tell them our blender is broken or something,” Anthony said, rising up to his full height. “But you need to make them something fancy…and fast. Don’t we have champagne?”

“I have three bottles in the back office, but they’re not even cold.”

“What about Ol’ Man Witer’s Moonshine? There are a few jars left from the playoff parties, right?”

“Good Lord, Anthony,” the bartender said with wide eyes. “We’re trying to get those rich ladies buzzed, not blind.”

“Water it down maybe?”

Pointing a long, red-polished fingernail at the women’s table, she said, “You cannot be serious right now, Anthony. You want to serve watered-down hooch to those women?”

“If it can be mixed with other stuff to look expensive and taste delicious, then hell yes I do. Water down the hooch.” Anthony reached across the bar and grabbed her by the shoulders. In a low voice, he said, “I’m begging you, boss lady. Please. Think of something.”
