Car troubles galore

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

You know what is always fun? Car trouble! Yaaay! Nothing like waking up in the morning to a vehicle that goes “ritititititit” instead of turning over. So, we had plans to fix the Jeep this weekend. Woke up, had breakfast, I saw on my local Buy Nothing group that one of the members was offering up clippings from their succulent garden. So, we stopped by in our other vehicle to get some new plants. Yay, right? Wrong! When I was finished taking plant clippings I realized that our other vehicle wouldn’t start-up. Thankfully the girl allowed us to take her car to run home and get tools and jumper cables to try to get our vehicle running again. I still can’t believe she let a complete stranger take her vehicle. Anyways, one call to AAA later, a few trips to Autozone, and I think… I HOPE that we finally have both vehicles up and running.

Later today I plan to go to a book launch party for Fire and Bone. You know, the book about the demigoddess that I recently featured on the blog? Anyway, I’m really excited that she’s coming nearby for her launch party. I met her last year at another book signing, and she’s really cool and sweet. So, I’m happy that I get to be there for the festivities. Let’s just hope we have no more car troubles.

Book I read this week…

The Trouble with Unicorns was actually a beta read that I did for the author. So, I have no clue what will or won’t stay in the finished book. However, I really enjoyed the idea of a unicorn shifter who is also a demon tracker. She even has a dragon shifter warrior assigned to her to keep her safe. So just picture an overly optimistic, bubbly unicorn shifter, and a broody, serious dragon shifter being paired together. Caraval was something… and not in a good way. So many people raved about this book and it still pops up on my Instagram feed from other people at least twice a day. I honestly don’t get it though. I was looking forward to some magical mystery, and instead got nonsensical b.s.. Not to mention that the ending pretty much erases everything we’ve read for 400 pages. Ugh. Needless to say, I read two books this week because Caraval turned me off so much that I needed a couple of days to cool down.

Currently reading…

I’m really enjoying Mate Claimed so far. It’s a story about a half-shifter and the leader of the local Shiftertown (where shifters have been forced to live by humans). I will admit that I have jumped around in this series quite a bit. I didn’t actually start to read it until a couple of years ago when one of the new releases caught my eye. So, now I’m going back and trying to read from the beginning.

44 Thoughts on “Car troubles galore

  1. Wow. I can’t believe that someone let you drive their car just like that. Must be some awesome people, wow! Hope you get the cars fixed though 🙂

    • I know. I was completely shocked when she offered up her car keys so that we didn’t have to walk home. The Mister worked on them both yesterday and they are starting up for us now. So, I’m hoping that lasts. :fingers crossed:

  2. Oh no! I don’t have a car (I don’t drive), but I can imagine car troubles can be a real pain. Glad to know everything is better, and yes, it was very kind of that woman to let you borrow her car. 🙂 Sometimes we just need people like that in our lives, don’t you think?

    • We have two vehicles, so usually when one goes down it’s just a minor inconvenience and we work around it. However, our one was already not starting up in the garage. So when the other one wouldn’t start when we were out, I was in disbelief. She was definitely an angel for us yesterday. It’s sad that I’m always extremely surprised when people go out of their way and do something nice for strangers. We definitely need more people in the world like that.

  3. Wow, looks like you had a wonderful reading week Kristin. I’m loving the covers of Caravan and the trouble with unicorns <3 Sorry about the car though 🙁

  4. Ugh car troubles! Very frustrating. I want to go to a book launch party! I’ve never heard of those near me. Have fun and happy reading this week.

    • I’ve only ever been to the one last year. They had cupcakes and bookmarks out for people to take. They also hung around and chatted with everyone. It was very low-key.

  5. Don’t even get me started about car trouble, and I totally feel your pain. 3 mechanics later, and they’re still trying to figure out what’s wrong that’s causing the problem and I’m dying!(lol) Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers, right? I’m glad things are going better on the car front. As always, love your Instagram pics! Hugs…RO

    • Oh my goodness! That’s awful. We went through something similar a while back with my old Buick. I hope that they are able to figure out what’s going on with your vehicle. Having a vehicle out of commission is rough.

  6. Sorry to hear about the car trouble, but a book launch party sounds like a lot of fun!

    • I’m looking forward to going later today. The Mister has already gone out once this morning to test the vehicles to make sure they are working properly. So hopefully I don’t get stuck at the book signing. :fingers crossed: LoL

  7. Sorry to hear about your car trouble. It is no fun! I have the audio book of Caraval, I tried listening to it a few times and couldn’t get into it.

  8. So sorry about the dual car trouble. That is just terrible! I hope this week goes much smoother for you.

    • Thanks. I’m hoping the “fun” is behind me. I have company coming out on Friday for a visit and I really need to focus on getting ahead on blogging and cleaning before they arrive.

    • I’ve jumped around a lot in the series, but have enjoyed the majority of the ones I’ve read. She’s pretty well known, you should be able to find this series at your library.

  10. The Trouble With Unicorns does sound fun and I agree, car problems can be the worst. Hope it is all worked out now!

  11. Good luck with your car next week! Hope everything’s fixed up properly!

  12. I loved Mate Claimed! I love that whole series. Wow, it sure was nice of that lady to let you take her car.

  13. I really want to try Ashley’s series soon! I’ve only read one book by her but I really enjoyed it so I have high hopes for this series as well now. I’m glad to hear that your car troubles are fixed – those are never fun and usually so expensive. Have a great week and happy reading!

    • This is a series that I’ve sort of jumped around in depending on the book I get my hands on. It’s a well done series though. I hope you get a chance to check it out.

  14. Yikes, I’m reading Caraval right now….you have me nervous now 🙂 Mate Claimed looks interesting and I like books about shifters. Enjoy your week!

  15. haha we are dealing with some car troubles today as well, so totally feel you. Hope it’s resolved <3
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Caraval, I still hope to read it but .. also you know.. a lot of negative about it that gives me a pause.

    • Oh no! I hope you are able to figure out what’s wrong with you vehicle! As for Caraval, I hope you read it and enjoy it. It seems like the reviews are a mixed bag. I would see if your local library has a copy in just in case.

  16. Wow, that’s some bad luck with the cars. It’s cool that a stranger let you borrow hers, though. Enjoy the book launch party. Have a great week!

  17. That really sucks about the car trouble! I really feel for you. We actually had to get rid of our second car (which also happened to be my car) because of issues. It kept randomly stalling at intersections and no one could figure out why it was doing it. I was scared to take the thing anywhere, especially with my daughter with me. Luckily my fiances jeep is actually running really well minus needing the brakes replaced. But that’s normal maintenance.

    • Eesh. Stalling out is no good. I had a car that did that to me once and it was awful. I couldn’t imagine going through that with a kid on top of it. Glad to hear that your car troubles are behind you.

  18. Oh no Kristen, sorry to hear about your car troubles. That is so wonderful that someone let you borrow her car. Mate Claimed sounds really interesting, I’ve never heard of this series.

    • I’m almost done with Mate Claimed and it’s really good. I’m enjoying it a lot. I’m actually hoping that one of the characters we meet in the story (who isn’t a great guy, but isn’t as bad as he’s initially perceived to be) gets his own story. I really want to know what he’s all about.

  19. Oh man. That’s always the way. Hope the cars decide to cooperate this week for ya! Mine is getting to go in for a coolant leak. Ergs! Mate Claimed was my first Ashley and hooked me 🙂 Happy reading!

And, yes, Graham gets a book. His is Wild Wolf (#6)

    • Me, too. I have a friend coming for a visit later in the week. So I really need to have a vehicle that behaves. Our one just went into the shop for a coolant leak. We had to get the radiator replaced but it was ten years old, so it was time for a new one anyways. I hope they are able to do a simple repair on your car. Car issues are no fun. Especially when they come with a hefty bill.

  20. Wow that is so nice of the girl to let you borrow her car. Car troubles are the worst!!!

  21. Oh no! Glad you got your cars fixed! We’re one car down after one was rear-ended by a lorry… Fun times!
I haven’t read the Jennifer Ashley series yet but I’m seeing it around a lot. May have to check it out!

    • Oh no! That’s awful. I’ve been rear-ended and front-ended. I was on a bridge and a car started to go when the light turned green, saw a fire truck with their lights on heading towards us, and threw his truck in reverse and backed right into me. LoL I laugh about it now but at the time I was a lil shaken up. I hope you are able to get your car fixed though insurance.
If you like shifter romances, I would give her a try. The first few books in the series were rough and I think I DNF one of them. However, I started reading the newer installments and fell in love with that world, so now I’m going back and trying to start from the beginning.

  22. I’m so to hear about the car trouble. That’s never fun 🙁

I had a mixed reaction when I read Caraval as well. There were some things I liked about it but in other ways I was disappointed. I still plan to read the second book but I’ll be keeping my expectations in check this time around.
