Love is a Battlefield

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

This week was very low-key for me. The Mister was gone this week for work, so I decided to take that opportunity to just sit at the computer and get as much work done as possible. I still have a ton of more blog posts to type up, but I got a solid chunk done over the last few days. Which is huge for me since I am usually typing up posts the day before.

While I was successful in getting some work done, the books I read left me feeling ho-hum. There were just a lot of mediocre reads with characters that seemed to lack a brain. I even had a DNF this week, which is sad since I thought I would love that story. Actually, I thought I was going to love ALL of the books I read. Which was probably why I fell into a reading slump. It’s just so rough to be letdown over and over by books that you are so sure of.

Lawyers, Rock Stars, and Kings.

Kind of exciting news… I hit the 500 milestone mark on Instagram followers this week! Which I’m really excited and surprised about. A lot of you guys have themes. Heck, all the “how-to” posts I see online for Instagram say that you should have a theme if you want to post about books, but I’m horrible about restrictions. I like to post whatever I want, when I want to. I also don’t have all those fancy props and random stuff that people put in their photos. I don’t have the space for that kind of stuff and with how often we move with the Mister’s job, I don’t want to have to pack it up every few years. Bleh! So, my account is pretty basic with no fancy flair or frills. So, the fact that I hit 500 is mind-boggling. So if you follow me on there, THANK YOU! Also, leave a comment with your IG handle so that I can follow you back. 😉

Swish and Flick

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Big news here at the Book Sniffers Keep… I GOT MY FIRST WAND!!! :cue the Oprah “you get a car” yell: My best friend bought me one shortly after getting home from her visit out here. Apparently there was a little girl selling wands and my friend bought one. Not sure if she was at an art fair, someone’s kid was selling it, or she happened across a lil girl selling wands on the corner, but she bought me a custom wand! I know you can’t really grasp my excitement about thing through typed words but I’M LOSING MY MIND OVER IT! I may or may not have started swish and flicking the wand around the house like some deranged version of Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo. Yes, I’m 30 years old. No, I will never grow up!

On other news, I’m pretty sure I bruised my tailbone and injured my breast bone last Friday during my snowboarding adventure. I fell pretty hard on my back-end and was in really bad pain. So when I fell on the board later on (there’s only one way off that stupid mountain and that’s to just continue on) I locked my hands behind me to keep my butt from hitting the snow. I thought maybe I just banged up my body and after I let it rest, I would be good as new. NOPE! They both still hurt. The Mister jokes that he’s going to get me one of those butt donut pillow things to sit on, but I’m holding strong. As long as I don’t sit on any hard surfaces, keep a perfect posture going (easier said than done), and don’t twist my upper half to pick something up, then I don’t end up in pain. All I know is that my pain in the butt is making it hard for me to sit down for extended periods of time and blog. Let alone bend in crazy angles to try to get the “perfect shot” for Instagram. So, if I’ve been a bit quiet lately, that is why.

Shredding the Gnar

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

The Mister surprised me with my very first snowboarding trip! I’ve never been snowboarding before, but have always wanted to go. Since we’ve been getting quite a bit of rain here, the ski resort a few hours up north has getting a lot of snow. So, the Mister took Friday off so we could go up and have some fun. It is not as easy as it looks. Oooweeee It’s a ton of leg work, and since I was terrified of the speed, I pretty much did squatted breaking the entire time down the mountain. Let’s just say that everything from my nose down to my toes is sore. It was an absolute gorgeous day though, and while I found out that snowboarding isn’t for me, I’m glad I got to go.

Sun, Fun, and Best Friends

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

I accidentally skipped last week’s wrap-up due to having company over. My best friend flew out last weekend and I kind of lost track of time. We went out and did something new every day she was here. Needless to say, this week has been a whirlwind of fun. We did everything from local hikes, checked out a couple of the beaches, went to a place where you could throw axes at a target, went to local breweries, and we even got to check out a local cat cafe. I’ve heard about them being in Japan, but I had no clue that there was one near my house. I loved sitting down with a cup of coffee, and getting to hang out with a bunch of cats. Plus, I loved that all the cats that were there were up for adoption. I wanted to take this one cat home with me. The owner kept saying he was the temperamental grump of the bunch, and I guess I just felt like we were kindred spirits or something. 😀 The best part is, he walked right into my friends lap and was loving all over her. I wish I could have adopted him, but my cat is not okay with new animals coming into the house. 😒

Since I wasn’t really home to do any reading or blogging, I have a lot of catching up to do. I had an absolute blast this past week. Since I live across the country from all my family and friends, having someone fly out to visit is a huge deal. It was also great because she wanted to do a bunch of things that I hadn’t had a chance to check out. Since we move around a lot due to The Mister’s job, we tend to not experience everything a location has to offer. However, I felt like we knocked out a ton of things in the San Diego area, and when his job relocates us to a new location, I will have no regrets. A lot of the things we did I tried to take pictures to share on my Instagram stories, but there was so much that a lot of it wasn’t posted.

Car troubles galore

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

You know what is always fun? Car trouble! Yaaay! Nothing like waking up in the morning to a vehicle that goes “ritititititit” instead of turning over. So, we had plans to fix the Jeep this weekend. Woke up, had breakfast, I saw on my local Buy Nothing group that one of the members was offering up clippings from their succulent garden. So, we stopped by in our other vehicle to get some new plants. Yay, right? Wrong! When I was finished taking plant clippings I realized that our other vehicle wouldn’t start-up. Thankfully the girl allowed us to take her car to run home and get tools and jumper cables to try to get our vehicle running again. I still can’t believe she let a complete stranger take her vehicle. Anyways, one call to AAA later, a few trips to Autozone, and I think… I HOPE that we finally have both vehicles up and running.

Later today I plan to go to a book launch party for Fire and Bone. You know, the book about the demigoddess that I recently featured on the blog? Anyway, I’m really excited that she’s coming nearby for her launch party. I met her last year at another book signing, and she’s really cool and sweet. So, I’m happy that I get to be there for the festivities. Let’s just hope we have no more car troubles.

Happy Lunar New Year!

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

This weekend we celebrated the Lunar New Year. We live in a predominately Asian neighborhood, and every year they put on a huge festival near our house. On Friday we walked down for the opening night festivities, and had a blast. We got to watch the lion dances, dance team competition, and stayed for The Ha Brothers (DJ) afterwards. I’ll be honest though, I’ve never felt so old before. There were so many young teens there, dancing and having a blast, and I felt like I was out past my bedtime.

Speaking of the Tết Festival, if you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my story on Friday night that had a short clip of one of the lion dances. While I’m still learning the ins and outs of this smartphone thing, case in point I accidentally did a 2 second live video on Facebook when I was just trying to take a normal video, I am loving the fact that I can share a more personal side to your guys of what I’m up to, without it bogging down my feed with a ton of posts.

So many cacti, so little time.

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Last Sunday I had an early Galentine’s brunch with a group of girls. I had a ton of fun. Since I’m new to the whole smartphone thing, a couple of friends went over Snapchat (which I don’t plan to get), different apps, and even showed me how to boomerang. Which is why there’s a random story on my Instagram account of the three of us. It’s probably the only time you’ll see me without my wig or my face obscured. I guess I’m not so anonymous anymore.

Yesterday was the cactus & succulent event. The cactus & succulent society puts together this event where local nurseries bring in their plants to both sell and put in for a judging competition. Last year we came home with quite a bit of plants. However, this year I reigned myself in and didn’t buy anything. Although, I took a ton of photos of the plants and plan to maybe check out the various nurseries in the area to see what else they have. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my story showing some of the plants at the event.

Speaking of which, I’m thinking I will use the Instagram stories as a way to show updates on my personal life. I posted photos from the succulent event as well as a birthday party I attended last night for a friend’s thirtieth birthday. I’m not sure if I want my feed to be just books, or if I want to mix in personal photos. I’m still trying to figure out what I’m doing over there. Ha!

Never mess with a gladiatrix

I’ve been so bad about doing weekly wrap-ups. It mainly has to do with the fact that I’ve slowed way down on purchasing books and accepting review requests. I just have way too many books already on my shelves waiting to be read. However, even though I’m not getting a lot of new books in every week, I am still doing a lot of reading. I also started an Instagram account last year that I don’t really talk about all that much on the blog and I would like to be able to show that on the blog. Plus, there seems to be a lot going on in my real life that has contributed in me going quiet from time to time. So, I wanted to do a weekly post where I showcase some of the books I’ve been reading, the books I may have acquired that week, and what I’ve been up to on a more personal level. I’m linking this post up to Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves.
