My sick book sniffer

If you follow me on Facebook you may already be aware that something happened last week with one of my fur-babies.

P1040431weebleOne of my fur-babies [Weeble] became ill and wasn’t able to hold down any food or water. The Mr and I took her to the vet and after spending seven hours at the vet hospital where they ran a ton of tests and x-rays, we brought our little girl home to wait for the results. Well, the next day one of the lab results came back and unfortunately it came back positive for feline lymphoma. If you have been with me for a while, you may remember that I unexpectedly lost my cat [Snickers] of 18 years to cancer. So, needless to say I was a bit distraught when I got the call confirming that Weeble had cancer. I mean, we are not even talking a year and a half later and I’m going through it all over again. However, it looks like we might have caught the cancer in the early stages and the oncologist gives her an 85% chance of remission with chemotherapy. The thing with her treatment is that she has to go in once a week to get the chemo injections and she has to do this for six months. I did a ton of research online and read over all of the paperwork the oncologist gave me and even though everything says the chemo won’t hurt her (it’s a much smaller dosage ratio than what humans get), it may make her feel a little nauseous and tired. She starts her treatments on Thursday and I’m really hoping she doesn’t experience any side-effects. So, if you notice that I’m not responding to emails, comments, or just not active online at all, it’s probably because I’m being a helicopter mom and pampering my fur-baby to the fullest.

  1. I’m sending you my best vibes, I know how furbabies matter to us, take good care of her *hugs*

    • Thanks. We need all the good vibes we can get. I’m gonna try to spoil the crap out of her as best as I can to make this process seem like a walk in the park for her. I’m just hoping that’s enough.

  2. Sorry to hear about Weeble. Cancer sucks dude. If you guys need anything please don’t hesitate to ask.

  3. Awww, sorry to hear this. I can tell she’s really special to you. I hope she won’t be in much pain.

    • I hope so. Otherwise we will need to reevaluate the situation. It wouldn’t be fair to make her suffer. :\ I’m really hoping that all goes well though.

I am a retired Vet Tech who still does Feral cat rescue and rehab. If I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to ask.

    • Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. I’m really hoping I don’t have to take you up on your offer but if I need to talk with anyone I will definitely send you a message. 🙂

  5. Poor thing, I hope Weeble gets better quickly. That whole situation is scary 🙁 Do they retest every once in awhile to see if the treatments work? Or just once 6 months goes by?

    • They do exams and blood work every week so I know they will be monitoring her levels the entire time. They did say that just like taking antibiotics, even though she appears better, she should really finish out the chemo to make sure it doesn’t pop back up.

  6. Aws poor babe! That’s great you caught it early and they’re feeling optimistic! They really do amazing on chemo. We’ve had multiples go through that and one who had to go in every single day for over a month for hers and she still did fine with it. You’d hardly notice she was getting anything. Hopefully your herd babe will do well with it also!

    • Oh thank goodness, Anna. I cannot tell you how stressed I’ve been. I even skipped my morning coffee this morning because my heart is racing leading up to this afternoon’s visit. I keep stressing over everything and looking over the paperwork. I know they say it won’t hurt her but I’ve read both good and bad stories online and you know, it’s kind of like looking up a cough on WebMD, you just end up getting yourself worked up more than you should. So thanks for letting me know about your herd babies. It gives me hope that I’m doing the right thing.

  7. That’s horrible. I hope your cat gets better. The odds sound good.

    • Thanks. She had her first round of chemo yesterday afternoon and she’s been totally fine. She wasn’t pissed at me when I got her home, and she’s been scarfing down her food. So far so good.

  8. So sorry to hear that, but glad your kitty will have a great chance to recover. We have a dog who is a beloved family member so I know that having a sick pet is very much like a having a sick baby because they can’t verbalize how they are feeling and you feel a huge responsibility to look out for them. Sending get well wishes to your Weeble!

  9. Oh no! This isn’t good at all. I’m so sorry. I’ll be thinking about you and your fur-baby.
