Never mess with a gladiatrix

I’ve been so bad about doing weekly wrap-ups. It mainly has to do with the fact that I’ve slowed way down on purchasing books and accepting review requests. I just have way too many books already on my shelves waiting to be read. However, even though I’m not getting a lot of new books in every week, I am still doing a lot of reading. I also started an Instagram account last year that I don’t really talk about all that much on the blog and I would like to be able to show that on the blog. Plus, there seems to be a lot going on in my real life that has contributed in me going quiet from time to time. So, I wanted to do a weekly post where I showcase some of the books I’ve been reading, the books I may have acquired that week, and what I’ve been up to on a more personal level. I’m linking this post up to Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves.

Books I’ve read this week…

Lots of good books read this week. I finished Fire and Bone (the demigoddess book). So good! Love the Way You Lie was a little hard to handle (it deals with a mafia princess who’s on the run and becomes a stripper), but I did find it enjoyable. It was a bit too dark for me and I had a hard time getting on board with their romance. The Valiant was bumped to the top of my list the moment the library got a copy in. It is a really good story about a Celtic princess who is kidnapped, turned into a slave, and sold as a female gladiator. What more could you ask for in a story? Too Hard to Forget has been sitting on my shelves for months. I love Tessa Bailey’s books and while this one was a little difficult to get into, I still enjoyed the rekindling romance between a graduated college student and the football coach.

What I’ve been up to on Instagram…

In the real world…

This week was actually pretty quiet. I was able to get quite a bit of reading in. I finished the review book I had started last week, read a couple of books that had been sitting on my shelf, and finally got my hands on The Valiant. I was really excited about that one since I’ve been dying to read it for a while now.

I also started to watch Grace and Frankie. I can’t believe I’m just now getting into this show. I watched a couple of episodes when my parents came out for a visit this past year but didn’t really pay attention I guess. I felt like watching something different on Netflix the other day and decided to give it another try, and I’m hooked. The Mister isn’t really a fan of it and will find other things to do when I turn it on, but I find it hilarious.

I do have plans to go the a brunch today, but afterwards I plan to come home, get in my pajamas and watch… the puppybowl. Football isn’t really my thing and I’m sorry, but watching a bunch of puppies run around is adorable! Especially when my dog sits next to me with his head cocked watching the “game” with me.

Are you planning to watch the big game today? Which team are you rooting for?

20 Thoughts on “Never mess with a gladiatrix

  1. I love Grace and Frankie so much! And it just gets better and better with each season. I finished binge watching season 4 last week and am now so bummed that I have to wait for the next season.

We’ll be watching the Super Bowl tonight and rooting for the Eagles, even though we’re all actually Panthers fans. It’s more about the snacks and the commercials for us, lol.

Hope you have a great week!

    • I’m glad it gets better. Not that Grace and Frankie is bad or anything but a lot of comedies lose steam after a while. I just find the two women hilarious. Maybe because I see a lil Grace and a lil Frankie in me.

  2. I would like to read Dead Man Walking. It sounds really good. I hope you enjoy all the new books. Happy reading! Glad you got a chance to read a lot. This week is super busy for me. As I start a new job Thursday.

    Mary @StackingMyBookShelves!

  3. It looks like you had a nice reading/Instagram week. Puppy Bowl is too cute 🙂 I need to watch Grace and Frankie, I’ve heard good things. Enjoy your Sunday.

I love that your dog watches the puppybowl with you! My family loves football – they want the Eagles to win – but I’ll probably just do some blogging and/or reading. Oh, and eat snacks. 🙂

    My STT

    • I’ve read a lot of good things about Caraval. It isn’t one that I initially gravitated to, but figured I’d check it out since everyone raves about it.

  6. I hope you enjoy your new books.

  7. I love the photos! I hope you enjoy your new books. I’m not watching the Super Bowl, but I am eating a lot of party snacks. Have a great week!

  8. Have a lovely week and happy reading!

  9. Just twist my arm why don’t you. Now I’m going to have to look into The Valiant hehe

  10. Yay for things calming a little. I had trouble with that whole series from Bailey even though I usually love her. Just didn’t mesh with me for some reason like hers usually do.

There’s a Monday memeyou might like. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading by BookDate. They do what you’ve read this week, what you’re currently reading and what’s up next kind of things in the post 🙂

    • This series has been hit or miss for me. I loved her older stuff that I read and thought I’d love these, too. And thanks for the heads up. I didn’t know about that meme. I will have to check it out. 🙂
