Prince’s, Thieves, and Birthday Girls!

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

I definitely got bit by the Spring bug. I’ve been gardening up a storm! Last weekend we went out and got some plants for my tortoise, Hailey’s, enclosure. My neighbor who practically has a botanical garden in her backyard, is preparing to move, and she gave me clippings of some of her plants. I’ve now been introduced to Philippine Orchids and a Orchid Cacti. The Philippine Orchid is really cool looking and I would have never guessed it was an orchid. It has these plantlets that grow off of the branches of the stalk (sort of like a spider plant). The Orchid Cacti are plants I’ve seen around the neighborhood but had no clue what they were. I tried googling them but was never able to identify them. So, I was really excited when she offered to give me some clippings from hers. Right now they look like a snake plant but once they start growing more segments they will resemble more of a huge Christmas Cactus.

New arrivals

I purchased an ecopy of Birthday Girl last week.

Read last week

I told you guys last week that I was starting to realize that Penelope Douglas is a one-click author for me. So, once I finished Punk 57, I decided to get Birthday Girl to read next. It was SO good! I also realized that my the library copy of The Cruel Prince was a few days past due so I quickly read that within 12 hours. It was good, but nothing to lose my cool over. There’s a lot of hype around this book, and while the cover is cool and the story is interesting, I found myself skimming a lot.

  1. That was very nice to give you clippings of some of her plants. I don’t have a yard but I don’t care for bugs so I doubt I would have a lot of flowering plants in mine if I did.

    • LoL I actually have a vermicompost tower in my backyard where I house a bunch of worms. Something tells me you wouldn’t be down with that. However, I’ve found that since starting it, and putting their worm compost (poop) in my houseplants, everything has been thriving. I agree though, bugs are a pain to deal with. My roses and vegetable plants outside get infested with aphids all the time. Thankfully, I don’t have a problem with bugs in the house.

  2. Love your gardening!! It’s too cold for us here in PA, but I am glad someone is having spring!! I have seen alot of The Cruel Prince. Have a great week!!

    • I have heard that you guys have been having some crazy weather over there. My family is in NY and they are jumping all around between 80* days and snow.

  3. I wanted to read The Cruel Prince for so long and then I finally bought it on ebook (there was a sale!) and still haven’t read it, lol. I will though. I want to see what the fuss is about and where I fall on the love it/hate it scale. πŸ™‚

    • That was me with the book. I put it on hold at the library and waited months for it. Then when I finally got it, I didn’t read it until the library sent me a notice that it was three days overdue. I thought it was a good story but I wasn’t wowed by it. I fell pretty much in the middle.

It’s interesting that you didn’t really love The Cruel Prince, because it does have a lot of hype/love but one of the first reviews I read of it was really negative. LOL It’s not something I’m interested in regardless. I’m glad you’re enjoying Penelope Douglas; I really want to read Punk 57.

    • The cover was so intriguing that even though the synopsis never fully grabbed my attention leading up to the release, the cover kept me interested in it. A lot of people rave about this book, but there’s also a lot of people that straight up hate it. I sort of fell in the middle. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. I tried to write a review for it, but was so meh over the book that I couldn’t come up with anything to say.

  5. The plants are lovely. I need to get some for in my house. I have so many outside but not a one inside. LOL And so many good looking reads. I spy a couple I’d like to read. Enjoy!

    • I’m kind of the opposite. I have a ton of plants inside, but only a handful outside. I actually have floating shelves that suction onto my window so that I can have even more little plants in my front room. LoL

  6. I’ve been debating on The Cruel Prince. And cool plants- nice of your neighbor to do that.

    • I would recommend picking up a copy from your local library. A lot of people either hate it or love it. I fell in the middle. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t love it either.

  7. I wish I had a green thumb! Sadly, no. But I love admiring the gardens of others.

    Birthday Girl looks interesting.

Thanks for sharing, and enjoy your week. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    • When I was a kid, I grew a corn stalk, in the city, with a popcorn kernel. After that, I killed everything I touched. I’m just now starting to get my plant groove back. It started with my golden pothos. I’ve had that plant for ten years and sometimes I remember to water it, sometimes I’ve forgot to water for a month. If you wanted to get a plant, I highly suggest getting one of those. They are also easily propagated since the vines have roots that come out of them when placed in water. So, I’ve given away a bunch of baby plants from my one plant. πŸ™‚

  8. Nice looking plants. I’m not thinking Spring yet. It snowed again last Friday here. I also read The Cruel Prince and thought it was okay but not memorable. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    • Ugh! My family in NY has been having some crazy weather. It will be 80* one day and then snowing the next. We’re just fluctuating between 80 and 60 here in SoCal, so it’s not so bad.

This is the first year we’ve had a garden. We might actually be able to grow vegetables. Our tomatoes are looking good. Happy end of the month. Come see what I’m reading.

    • How exciting! I love growing my own vegetables. We once had a pumpkin patch that took up almost our whole (small) backyard. It was awesome, but a lot of work. I think we only wound up with 3 pumpkins. LoL Good luck with your gardening! I hope you have a bountiful harvest.

  10. I felt the same about The Cruel Prince. I liked it but ehhh

I cant wait to get into my garden. I think I’m going plant shopping tomorrow. I need to freshen up my butterfly/hummingbird beds a bit.

    • I tried so hard to write a review for it, but I just couldn’t muster enough feeling to write a good review. I also can’t believe it’s a series. I thought it was a good ending the way it was.

  11. Congrats on the plants πŸ™‚
