Head of the class…

Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.

The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and “cool” teacher in the hometown where he’s not just a golden boy—he’s platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.

Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.

And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Back to school…

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself…on the other side of the country. But circumstances—that she’d prefer to never speak of again—have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.

Now she’s facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore…and that’s just the teachers.

Just like old times…

When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance—and then has to stop herself from jumping him.

Good friends are all they can ever be.

Or…these teachers just might end up getting schooled—hard—by love.

Getting Schooled is a sweet second chance romance. When Callie’s parent’s are in a car accident, she rushes home to NJ to be at their side. Since their recovery is going to take a while, she decides to take a job as a theater teacher at her old school for the year. Which is where she runs into her high school sweetheart, Garrett. Garrett is kind of a big deal in their small town since he’s the coach of their winning football team. With these two working together, things sort of pick up where they left off 17 years ago.

I really thought this was a cute story. You can tell that these two really care for each other after all these years. Callie’s definitely compared all men to Garrett, and Garrett has always held a flame for Callie. So when they are reunited, it didn’t take long for them to start burning up the pages. I loved that they had this intense history together and were still so bonded that it was as if their time apart never happened.

However, what I really enjoyed about this story was the kids. Between Garrett’s position at the school as a history teacher and the coach to the undefeated football team, and Callie’s new position as a theater teacher, we got to see a lot of time with the students. I loved getting to see how the two characters were with their kids. Between normal teen drama, to some pretty dramatic scenes, I feel like the students really brought out the story to me and made it more than just a cute romance. It made the characters likable, relatable, and just more well-rounded.

Getting School was a great read. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cute, light romance about high school sweethearts getting a second chance at love.

Favorite quote…

“These kids aren’t us; they’ll never be us. They’re more like… young Lex Luthers. They’ve never known a world without the internet. Email. Text messaging. Social media. Likes and views are king, bullying dickheads are inescapable, and genuine social interaction can be almost completely avoided. It makes them really fucking smart technologically and really fucking stupid emotionally.”
