She’s smart, seductive, and in way over her head.
He’s her only way out.

An undercover DEA agent has gone off the radar. Suspecting an internal mole, the government needs Luke Dubois and his elite team of operatives to recover their man, and the New Orleans native thinks he’s found his way inside the dark underbelly of Manhattan: Olivia Taylor, the girlfriend of a mob boss and the sexiest woman he’s ever laid eyes on. His new mission objective? Get past Olivia’s defenses and convince her to take a chance—on him.

All Olivia wanted was to finish law school and live a normal life, but that dream was shattered when one dangerous night put her deeply in a mobster’s debt. Now Luke and his team will help her escape—in exchange for intel on the missing agent. But Olivia doesn’t anticipate her intense attraction to the reckless Louisiana charmer or that she’ll be forced to risk everything—including her heart.

1thoughtsMidnight Alias is set six months after Midnight Rescue. In this book we get Luke who we briefly met in the previous book and Olivia, who is a new character. Luke is on a recon team who’s looking for a DEA agent who’s cover is blown and might need some help getting out of his last job which dealt with the mafia in NYC. One of the smaller fish in the mob pond runs a strip club. So, Luke has been tasked to frequent the club in hopes of spotting the DEA agent. However, instead of spotting the DEA agent, he sets his sights on one of the strippers. It also turns out that this particular stripper is the club owner’s girlfriend and she might just be able to help him find the DEA agent.

Granted this book deals with two new characters, we still get the team as a whole working together. Not to mention that Isabel and Trevor play big parts in this book as well, and they were secondary characters in the first book. So, I hate to say this but, you should probably read the first book before diving into this one. Otherwise, you miss how much Trevor suffered before this book and how he and Isabel met. Granted, this still isn’t their story, but their relationship builds even more in this one and the next book is finally theirs. So, I suggest you read these books in order since the author does a great job weaving the different characters into one book.

Like I said before, we didn’t really get a lot of Luke time in the first book. We just meet him and his dog. I will be honest that Luke wasn’t one of the characters from the previous book that drew my attention. However, he wasn’t a bad main character. Olivia is the mob guy’s reluctant girlfriend. She start stripping for financial reasons and one night was attacked by a customer and, in self-defense, killed the guy. The club owner covered up the scene, dumped the body, and told Olivia that he owned her now. She’s been saving up money to get her and her mother out of there and hidden away from him. So, when Luke comes in with his team of mercenaries telling her that he can get her and her mother to safety if she helps him take down her “boyfriend”, she’s all too happy to help. I liked the fact that Olivia wasn’t some meek little thing. She bides her time while planning ahead. She was a pretty solid character.

Midnight Alias wasn’t my favorite from the series so far. I found myself gravitating toward Trevor and Isabel’s POV’s more. So, I’m really excited that their book is next. Their story has been brewing since the beginning and I can’t wait to see how it all goes down.

1favequote“Luke’s jaw fell open as she gave his chest a fir shove and got him on his back. Un-fucking-real. The one time he tried to be a gentleman, and what happened? A gorgeous brunette decided to sexually assault him.”

6 Thoughts on “Review: Midnight Alias by Elle Kennedy

  1. I’m glad to hear Olivia isn’t a weak little pansy. In really getting sick of those types of woman.

    • HaHaa. “Weak little pansy”. I couldn’t tell, Jenny. I must admit though, it does get old, fast. So far this series has leading women who are more “take charge” than “sit back and let the man handle it”.

  2. I’ve really liked the heroines in the later part of the series. They’ve been pretty badass. I have these first three on my review pile and really need to get to them. Glad you enjoyed it overall 🙂

  3. Hopefully the next books is better for you.

  4. Hmm this is a genre I normally don’t read, but your review has me wanting to read book one asap 🙂

  5. This happens to me too where I’m more interested in the side characters than the main ones. Like in Mortal Instruments and Twilight.
