No one drives in New York City. Everyone knows that, including California transplant Rachel Price. But that doesn’t stop her from driving into the city. From Connecticut. Every single morning. Rain or shine…or snow.

When she runs the charismatic and good-looking Jason Fairchild off the road, their immediate spark is met with bad timing. There is also one tiny little detail: Jason is her boss. And a woman as intelligent and dedicated to her career as Rachel knows not to date her boss.

As CEO of a private jet company, Jason Fairchild is more used to flying than driving. But if he hadn’t chosen to drive home one night, he wouldn’t have met the slowest—and most irresistible—driver in the entire metro area. Jason has never had time for love. Or dating. Or really anything that doesn’t involve work. But when he finds out that Rachel is the newest superstar in his marketing department, he can’t help wondering if fate has other plans…

Not Quite Crazy is not just the story about a woman who falls in love with her boss, it’s also a story about family. You see, Rachel became the guardian to her best friend’s son when her friend passed away from cancer. Rachel went from being the single friend, to being the guardian to a 15-year-old. In the hopes of smoothing things over with Owen’s grandparents from his father’s side, the two of them uprooted their lives and moved from California to New York in order for him to get to know them. Which is how Rachel finds herself white-knuckling the steering wheel while trying to drive home during a blizzard, and saving a handsome man who drove his car into a nearby ditch. A man who just so happens to be the CEO of the company she works for.

Even though this is the sixth book in the series, I didn’t feel like it was part of a series. I suppose Jason’s brother’s had their story told in previous books, but Rachel is definitely a new character. So, I liked that I got to learn about Jason and his family’s business through the eyes of her. She had no clue who he was when she rescued him and started texting him back and forth. That is, until she has a big presentation at work and he walks in the door. I always love a good SURPRISE you’re boss is your lover kind of story. Ha!

It’s not all about the romance though. I loved that this story focused a lot on family, too. Rachel and Owen’s relationship was so tight-knit. Even though their current situation is new, they act as if this has been the norm for them all their lives. You can tell that Owen respects Rachel, and that Rachel would do anything for Owen. So when his grandparent’s start kicking up dust, I was immediately on edge. Owen disliked his grandparents a lot. Didn’t help that they were judgemental, snooty jerks. However, Rachel always tried to make an effort and talk Owen into visiting with them because she knew how important family was. I really liked that the majority of the story felt very centered on the love of a family and how you would do anything for them.

I honestly can’t believe I’ve never heard of this series before. I’m so glad I took a chance on this, because now I want to go back and read all the previous stories in the series. The author creates characters that are down right impossible not to fall in love with. I found myself tearing up at the sad parts, smiling at the craziness that was a teenage boy, and swooning all over the place over Jason and his desire to be there for both Rachel and Owen. This was an all around great read.

  1. I didn’t know about this one either

  2. I actually love office romance so this one’s for me! It’s also great that the story also focused on family, and you know me, I’m a sucker for that 😉

I’ve always wanted to read something from Bybee and I really like the sound of this story. I’m a sucker for a good family story in a romance and I like that Rachel seems to have really embraced her role as guardian to Owen. And I also like the “surprise! your lover is your boss” kinda storyline. 🙂 I’ll have to check out this series!

    • This sounds like it would be perfect for you then! I really liked all of the layers this story had. I hope you pick up a copy and give this a try.

  4. Oh that sounds like a really good read.

  5. Her books always look good. And goodness what a life change that is all the sudden.

That’s great you were able to read this one as a stand-alone; those are always nice! I’m also happy to hear that it’s a book about family too and not just romance…though there is nothing wrong with just romance books! Sometimes it’s nice to have a little something more. 🙂

    • I agree. I love a good romance story, and that’s what I was expecting with this one. So when there was more to it than that, it made the story even better.

  7. I love it when I come across an author that I want to read everything they have written. Happy reading!

  8. Glad this one worked as a standalone for you. I like the NYC setting and have to admit that even though I don’t do much romance, I was hooked by the idea that the main character tried to drive into NYC. I’ve done that once in my life and once was more than enough, lol. Great review!

    • I found the fact that she drove into NYC pretty interesting, too. I’ve never been (even though growing up I only lived a handful of hours away), but my friend drives there a lot and she always leaves her car on the outskirts and taxi’s in. LoL

This sounds good. I never knew about this series.

    • I hadn’t heard of it either until I saw this book on Netgalley. Wish I had known about it sooner because I feel like I would have really enjoyed all of the books.
