Ten Facts About Me

ramblings12

Usually I just post reviews on here and don’t talk too much about myself. After all, this is a book blog, not a personal blog about my life. However, I figured it would be fun to list ten interesting facts about myself that you guys might not know. So without further ado, here we go!

Ten Facts About Me

  1. I’m a huge kitchen gadget freak. My dream home consists of a massive kitchen to house all my stuff. I currently own a popcorn popper, quesadilla maker, Magic Bullet, a waffle iron that flips over, George Foreman tabletop grill, ice cream maker, snow cone machine, doughnut baking pan, bread machine,  juicer, citrus juicer, oh and my all time favorite… my kitchen aid mixer. I have more but I honestly cannot remember them all. Some are still in storage from our move and haven’t quite made their way out of the boxes yet. Primarily because I’ve run out of places to put them.
  2. The Mr. and I met in high school. He was the popular kid in school and a mutual friend introduced us during lunch. Halfway through lunch he had forgotten my name and asked me what it was. I told him that I already told him my name once, if he couldn’t remember it, that wasn’t my fault. Apparently, not many people sassed him like that. He wound up taking an interest in me and we’ve been together ever since.
  3. My favorite color is lime green. Not only do I own clothes, towels, and various items in lime green, but my vehicle is lime green as well. HaHa
  4. I am a huge animal lover. Huge! The pup I have now was one that I rescued from our old neighborhood which was in the middle of the desert. It was sunset when I saw this little black dog run by the house. Knowing that’s the time the coyotes start coming out, I went out to try to get him and after about 10 minutes of following him around trying to coax him over to me, I grabbed him. When I finally tracked down the owner the next day, she told me that she didn’t want him and didn’t care if he became “coyote food”. So that fine Saturday morning, the Mister woke up with an adorable black puppy greeting him as he stumbled out of bed. We tried finding him a permanent home since we weren’t in the market for a dog, but he has since become a permanent book sniffer.
  5. Aside from the dog, we currently live with 2 cats, one of which is a f3 jungle bob hybrid and the other has asthma which requires us to give her her inhaler of “puff puff” every day, a Russian Tortoise, and a bunch of fish. All of which have traveled across the country with us as we’ve been relocated due to the Mister’s job. Leave no man/fish/cat/dog/tortoise behind!
  6. I don’t really have funky colored hair. All my profile pictures for the blog were taken with wigs. 😉 It helps keep the anonymity.
  7. For a couple years while we lived in California’s hi-desert, I worked at Joshua Tree National Park. I worked at the head quarters where I answered the phone and spoke with the visitors who came in. So, chances are if you visited/called the park in the last handful of years, you very well may have spoken to me.
  8. I’m an introvert. I know a lot of bloggers are. There’s something about being behind a computer that allows me to talk freely with people. However, you throw me in a room with strangers… better yet,  put me in a room full of people I know… and I clam up. Leading up to group activities I get anxious. I’d love to be more like the Mister who can throw himself into conversations and whatnot, but I can’t. It’s just too scary and uncomfortable for me. I end up just sitting there in that one spot barely talking. I’m usually inside my own head thinking a million different things. Usually thinking how stupid it was for me to go out and be there when I could be at home in my pj’s reading a book or watching a movie. Sometimes, and I’m not even joking, I’m envisioning scenes from the latest book I’ve read. However, at the same time, I’m also listening and paying attention to everything going on around me even though to everyone else it doesn’t appear like I’m paying attention to anything at all.
  9. I’m terrified of tornadoes. Whatever you’re thinking, amplify that by ten and you have me. One of the times the Mister and I were driving across the country, we stopped in Minnesota to visit my friend. As we were driving in, the radio called for a tornado watch a few miles from our location. We were on an open road with no bridges, no trees, and no cover whatsoever. When we finally made it to my friends place I loaded the kiddos (cats, fish, and tortoise) in her place, and we took off to eat dinner at some sports bar type place. It was loud with music, sports channels, and they were playing bingo… and I panicked. I must have asked my friend eight times what happens if a tornado touches down. She kept reassuring me that you would hear the siren, regardless of all the noise. I kept my cool, but let me tell you, I was not convinced. Once we finished eating, we went back to her place where we started loading the kiddos back into the vehicle to get the heck outta dodge. I wanted to get as far away from that place as I possibly could before calling it a night. The sky got dark, the wind started to pick up and as the Mister was loading in the kiddos one by one, I looked at him and said, “If I see a tornado, I’m taking off.” I’m pretty sure he just rolled his eyes at me and went back in to get another fur-baby. Needless to say, when we were all strapped in and ready to roll, I was the driver, and I did not stop driving until we were out of the danger zone. Yup, that is how insanely terrified of tornadoes I am.
  10. Last but not least, I got married at 18. I feel like out of everything I’ve accomplished, that is the biggest for me. So many people look poorly on young marriage. So many people thought we wouldn’t last. Heck, so many people thought the only reason we got married was because I was pregnant. Well, ten years later there’s still no [human] baby. 😛 Getting married young wasn’t a walk in the park but we had each other to get through the tough spots. We’ve always been supportive of each other. <3

9 Thoughts on “Ten Facts About Me

    Love it! I miss you!

  2. Hey, I have a Thermomix in my kitchen, I’m in love with it (and my boyfriend loves to cook with it while I’m reading somewhere with my feet up, bonus ^^) ! I’m glad you saved that pup from being coyote food, his last owner was a jerk and he’s definitely better with you. And like many bloggers, I’m an introvert, I “speak” a lot more on the blog than in real life. Not afraid to speak, no, just don’t feel like it. Enjoy your life with your loved one, I’m glad to know you a little better 🙂

    • I just watched a Thermomix video and WOW! I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this thing before. It sounds amazing.
I love chatting with people in small groups or one on one but in large groups I do not like the attention on me. LoL

  3. Aw that’s awesome yall have been together so long. My aunt and uncle got married not much older than yall were and have been married over 30 years now I’d guess.

I’m so with you on the gadgets!! If I had a bigger kitchen I would have them all! I have a horribly tiny kitchen though that barely holds the essentials which is crazy frustrating. I do have a kitchen aid, a pasta maker, a couple different types of blenders/cuisinarts and one of those flip waffle makers. I’m totally jealous of all your others!

    • I love my waffle iron. I recently realized that you can make hashbrowns in it. There are a bunch of others like quesadilla’s and I think burgers… but I haven’t tried it. LoL Plus, I don’t think my homemade veggie burgers would hold up to the waffle iron.

      • My attempt at the hashbrowns was a total failure. I need to attempt again I think. Mine stuck something terrible despite sprays and such.

Do you have a particular veggie burger recipe? I’m venturing into trying to make my own.

        • I grated potatoes, squeezed out the moisture in a cheesecloth, then nuked them in the microwave for 2 minutes before putting them in the oiled waffle iron. I found that I have to let the potatoes sit there for about 15 minutes to really crisp up and not stick.
As for burgers my favorite to make are lentil burgers. I don’t really have a recipe for them though. I just sort of throw things in and taste as I go. I just dump a whole bag of dried lentils in a pot of water, cook them for 45 minutes or until they are really soft and perfect to mush. Drain then, add grated/powder onion, grated/powder garlic, whatever other spices I’m feeling that day, and about 1/4 c. ground flaxseed (if you’ve never used it it will act like an egg and bind everything together). If your mixture is too unmanageable I sometimes add a TBSP of xanthan gum (which kinda turns into a sticky paste when wet) and that will really firm everything up. Once everything has cooled, I line my burger press with plastic wrap, drop the burger mixture in, fold over the plastic wrap to cover, then form my patties and store in the freezer. You can do the same thing with any bean but I just find that lentils mush better.

  4. I love how you and your husband met. So cute. I love animals too, but my cat is demon spawn!
