The Start of the Big Move

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, Stacking the Shelves, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Well, this month has been pretty stressful. Hence why I haven’t been blogging. The month started with the June flight schedule being released. Within an hour of our travel office opening, all pet spots for the month of June were gone. Fortunately, they were able to book us two in-cabin spots for our cats. With that being said, we need to hire a pet shipping company to ship my dog out. For his 22lb self, the cheapest I can find is over $3,000. *dies a little inside* So, yeah, this month started out with a huge blow. Then the people who handle the check-in process for our flight have changed their mind 3x now on the size of carrier they accept for in-cabin. The latest, from last week, was a carrier size that is so small, it doesn’t exist. So, I’ve been dreading what is going to happen when we arrive at the airport because our carriers are half an inch over the current allowed size. To say that I’ve been stressed out this month would be a massive understatement.

So it should come as no surprise that I haven’t been reading this month. I finished one book this month… ONE! I just can’t bring myself to pick up a book and read it. I keep trying, but I get a sentence or two in, and then I find myself scrolling through tiktok, putzing on Facebook, or turning on the TV. I just can’t seem to sit down and focus. I think it’s safe to say that not a lot of reading will be getting done over the next few months. There’s just so much going on, so many things running through my head, that I just can’t seem to focus on anything. With that said, while the blog might be a little silent during this huge move, I will be active on Instagram. I will be sharing stories of what I’m up to on there and you guys can always reach out to me.

10 Thoughts on “The Start of the Big Move

  1. It sounds so stressful! I completely understand how everything else is taking a backseat and why you can’t focus! I’ll keep everything crossed that things go smoothly and that you and your pets get where you need to be.
    Good luck!

    • Thank you. I appreciate that, Nicci. It’s been so chaotic and we haven’t actually gotten into the move itself. We’re still wading through all the paperwork and planning.

  2. Good luck with everything! It’s pretty understandable you’ve been stressed out considering. the pet thing alone would be so nerve wracking. I hope it goes off without a hitch, but the price tag… yikes. I’d be shocked too.

Anyway hope you have a nice week. 🙂

    • Thanks, Greg. It definitely hasn’t been easy. This move would be difficult to begin with but the pandemic adds a whole new level of stress and planning to the mix.

  3. Whew, I’d be stressed too. I hope that everything works out okay though! I can see why reading might be difficult to focus on at the moment. It happens – finding other ways to relax is always good too.

    • Thank you, Lauren. Yes, reading has definitely taken a backseat during all of this. It also sucks that I’m going to have to leave all my books behind in storage while we are overseas due to the weight. It’s gonna be odd not having my bookshelves.

  4. I totally, totally feel your pain, and know what you must be going through. The travel in the military, including the shots required, shipping needs and finances were a true nightmare. You think I would have learned my lesson from being in the Air Force, then I ended up moving a zillion times for a telecommunications job. So I know the stress of having fur babies and that added cost is super stressful. I wonder if there’s a way to visit the airport one day with the pet carrier you have as a test to see what happens, and to speak with a manager, and to get something in writing? Maybe that may help? Just brainstorming, because I hate that you’re going through this. Sending lots and lots of hugs your way, and praying that it all works out. RO

    • Thank you, Ro. I appreciate it, and you are absolutely right. Military moves can be rather challenging. Usually the stressful part of moving is just trying to figure out a house since they never have one ready for us when we arrive. However, this time around, it’s just trying to get animals overseas. The pandemic has made things even more crazy. We can’t fly commercial, and the military flight is causing me a huge headache with them always changing their minds on the regulations. Unfortunately, we are in CA and the AMC is in Seattle. So, our goal is to get there at 2 am (for an 8am flight) to see what they say about the carriers, then scramble for alternatives before our flight. Needless to say, I won’t be relaxing until we arrive in Okinawa.

  5. So sorry that things have been so stressful. I hope the flight goes smoothly for you.

  6. Driving cross country with my two (& I drove cross country with 8 – 4 dogs, 4 cats years ago too) was stressful so I can’t even imagine.
