The super bloom craziness is over!

I’m linking this post to Sunday Post, and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

April was a super busy month at work due to the super bloom, Coachella music festival, and spring break. Needless to say, there was never a quiet moment at work. I was still able to get some reading in, but I was dead on my feet every night after work. I’m so glad the busy season is over and things are starting to slow down a bit. While the flowers were pretty amazing, the massive jump in tourists visiting was just a bit overwhelming for some of us here in the small town. When your hairdresser is talking about the craziness when she’s cutting your hair, you know everyone is feeling it. Ha!

I did take a road trip with a friend earlier in the month to check out a farm sanctuary. I was really excited to get to walk on a farm and see all the animals, but I definitely wasn’t expecting the PETA vibe. I should have known, but I was so focused on getting to see farm animals that were rescued and got to live out their lives in a happy place, that I didn’t even stop to think that most of the animals weren’t coming from neglect or turn-ins so much as meat farms. Whoops. :face palm: It was still cool to get to see and pet the goats, pigs, and cow, but I definitely felt like the odd man out. Especially since I wasn’t vegan like everyone else, and I was wearing a leather wrist band. I still support what they are doing, and it was heartbreaking to hear all the things that each particular animal faced before they reached the sanctuary. I’d love to one day own a farm where chickens and other various farm animals can just chill and have a good living space.

10 Thoughts on “The super bloom craziness is over!

  1. The farm sanctuary sounds interesting. I imagine there’s a lot of crazy stories out there about how animals are treated given how everything is mass produced these days.

Cliff’s Edge looks interesting- love that cover!

  2. Being around animals is my happy place. Farms and sanctuaries are nice places to visit. Sorry to hear you felt a bit uncomfortable.

  3. Ah, Seize The Night! That is one of my absolute favourite Kenyon novels…

The farm sanctuary visit sounds fun except for the PETA vibes!

  4. I hope you find some time to relax this week.

    Have a great reading week

  5. Road trips are fun because you get the chance to see different stuff, and your sanctuary trip sounds interesting. I would have loved to pet the animals too. Like you, I eat meat, but I always feel bad knowing that an animal suffered in any manner. I can’t even watch the Kentucky Derby because I hate seeing the jockeys use those strips on the horses to make them go faster. Just seems cruel to me. Coachella is huge, so I’m not surprised that all the crowds piled in, but I would have loved listening to all that music. It may have been different if I had to actually work at the even though.(lol) Glad you got in some reading, and you know I always adore your Instagram pics! Hugs…RO

  6. Oh, I want The Lying Hours SO BAD! LOL I also have Fake It Till You Break It and can’t wait to read it!

Sounds like you had a busy month!

    Thanks for sharing.

  7. I always forget to ask you – what do you do for a living? At the parks?

I’ve lived in Fl for so long that I’m over the moon excited about the burst of color I’m getting to see this spring. I guess we have year round color there but this is an explosion of blooms and I love it!

    • I’m an information specialist for the park’s association. So, I’m the person you talk to on the phone or the person you chat with when you come into the visitor center. It’s crazy that I talk with hundreds of people a day, but in my day to day life I’m very quiet and get nervous when I have to go to events where I don’t know people. LoL

  8. You have many lovely books! Happy reading!

    Here is my Sunday Post

  9. I feel like everybody has been so busy lately. Me too. At least you were able to get some reading and a trip in.
