Wulf is an ancient Viking warrior with a useful but extremely aggravating power—amnesia. No one who meets him in person can remember him 5 minutes later. It makes it easy to have one-night stands, but hard to have a meaningful relationship, and without true love he can never regain his soul.

When he finally meets Cassandra, the one woman who can remember him, she turns out to be the princess of the cursed race he’s sworn to hunt—and forbidden to him. The two of them must face ancient curses, prophecies, and the direct meddling of the Greek gods to find true happiness at last.

I had no clue that when I picked up this paranormal romance that I would be balling my eyes out so much. Goodness, I was a wreck throughout half of it. I’m so glad the Mister was not home to witness me crying over my Kindle.

First off, Wulf is a Viking warrior who has lived thousands of years. He’s immortal, which would be hard enough on anyone, but it’s even more so for Wulf because anyone not a dark-hunter, were-hunter, or from his bloodline can remember him five minutes after meeting him. Not his lovers, not his staff, or virtually anyone. Just think of how lonely that is for him. He can’t even order a pizza because minutes after placing the order, they forgot that he placed one.

Meanwhile, Cassandra is an Apollite, meaning on her 27th birthday she will die. So to know that she doesn’t even have a year left was pretty sad. Then all the things that happen between her and Wulf, it ripped my heart out to think of her dying. I mean, I know it’s a romance and that the author has got to do something to keep her alive but still, it was brutal. Not to mention, we come across other Appolites who we meet and then watch them die on their birthdays. Ugh. So many ugly tears over this book.

While it made me cry a lot, I did smile and laugh a lot, too. Wulf is overprotective… to the max. Actually take the max and then catapult it into infinity and you have Wulf. He has one person in his bloodline and he has taken all the precautions in the world to ensure their safety. There was even talk about his great great great great nephew wearing a helmet around the house for the first handful of years of his life because Wulf was worried he was going to fall and hit his head. So, needless to say, his banter with Chris (his very far down-the-line nephew) was pretty amusing. I’m surprised Wulf’s house wasn’t encased in bubble wrap or something.

I wish I could go into certain things that I loved and hated about this book but a lot of it focuses on something that is a surprise at about 30% of the way into the story. I will say that the surprise and the way it was handled was pretty freaking creepy. Like, it creeped me out majorly and was oh so wrong on so many levels. If you read this, you will immediately know what I’m talking about. But, I can’t say anything lest I give away one of the many plot twists in this novel. What I will say is that this is a great story and installment to the Dark-Hunters series. It can hold its own if you want to read it as a stand-alone and for those who have read the previous books, you get to see some previous characters again.

12 Thoughts on “Review: Kiss of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon

  1. I think one day I’ll just have to sit and start this series from the very beginning, hopefully it will work THAT great. I can’t help it, I love when a book gets me on an emotional level!

  2. I used to read a lot this series but so many books and at the end it was too much the same thing for me so I stopped

    • Yeah. I don’t know if I could read them all in one sitting. They are enjoyable as a breakup read when I need something familiar. However, they do all sort of follow the same story arc, so I could see them getting boring fast if I tried to read them back to back.

  3. This is one of my favorite series. I can hardly wait for each new book to come out. I felt the same way about this book but I loved reading it.

This sounds like the kind of read I love – yeah, I love a book that can make me cry! Ha! I’ve read the first 2 or 3 in this series but that’s as far as I made it. Looks like I need to pick up this series again because I have to meet the goodness that is Wulf. 😉
